About The Position
Job Title : Sterile Processing Technician Job Specialty : Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : 5x8.
0 Evenings, Monday through Friday, 3 pm - 11 : 30 pm / weekends as needed Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week Experience : Minimum of 3 years as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician in a large hospital setting (500+ beds) License : Not applicable Certifications : - Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD)- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association Must-Have : Travel experience as a Sterile Processing Technician (6 months)- Two professional references from the last two experiences Job Description : Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts.
- Select methods of packaging and sterilization, consulting with the Processing Manager as needed.- Examine surgical instrumentation for cleanliness and ensure proper assembly and function.
- Assemble instrument sets ensuring appropriate numbers and types of instruments per ESI software program protocols.- Handle instruments appropriately to ensure sterilization and document contents of trays using count / supply sheets.
- Operate steam sterilizers, checking time, pressure, and temperature gauges frequently to maintain proper levels.- Load and unload sterilizers, placing items on shelves for distribution.
- Perform simple maintenance on sterilizers such as cleaning drain baskets.- Prepare cultures, review test packs processed, interpret results, and complete required documentation to assure sterility.
- Check and adjust medical equipment to ensure it is operating according to specifications.- Send equipment not meeting specifications for repair.
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following established procedures to prevent cross-contamination.- Set up and clean decontamination equipment and work area upon completion of shift.
- Handle infectious waste and linen according to established protocols to ensure workflow compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Receive and store supplies from outside vendors and hospital areas, checking stock against requisitions and reporting discrepancies.
- Assist in maintaining par levels of inventory.- Document and fill orders for surgical supplies for patient care areas, delivering supplies when needed.
- Maintain records of equipment inventory use, frequency of servicing, and refer equipment not meeting specifications for repair.
- Responsible for quality assurance on all sterile supplies and instruments.- Perform daily quality assurance checks on stock levels, sterility dates, and accuracy of procedure carts.
Preferred : Experience in a Level 1 trauma center- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER Cert)- Orthopedic tray experience
