Registered Nurse (RN-CNI), Night

UC Health is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN-CNI) for CVICU for the night shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Registered Nurse (RN-CNI) will support the Medical Centers 24-bed CVICU delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established stands of care and according to policy and procedures.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN-CNI) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals.

The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.

The care is culturally based and age-specific.

Serve a very busy complex cardiac patient population undergoing surgeries such as CABG, valvuloplasty and valve replacement, heart transplant, VAD implantation and various thoracic procedures such as VATS and thoracotomies.

Non-surgical care includes ECMO, post-arrest hypothermia, and management of acute with mechanical support and acute on chronic heart failure.

  • Staffing 1 : 1 - post-op open heart procedures (balloon pump, CRRT, Therapeutic Hypothermia)
  • Collects basic level data, follows protocols with all populations, and does not deviate from them. Matches formal knowledge with clinical events to make decision.
  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises, and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient / family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients / family regarding treatment, and involves family / guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
  • Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance to hospital policy and procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and / or supplemental staff working on the unit.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements :

  • A strategic, adaptable, growth-oriented, and team-focused personality
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN)
