Job Description
Summary :
The Estimator will be responsible for : reviewing customer quotation requests and proposals, generating and analyzing manufacturing costs and labor estimates, pricing and strategy development, preparing cost estimates and customer quotations, communicating with customers, sales, vendors, and internal departments, generating new part setup documentation, and processing engineering change notices.
Essential Duties Include :
- Work with sales to identify customer requirements (including materials, dimensions, tolerances, inspection requirements, documentation, certification, testing, packaging, delivery, prior to quoting.
- Verify completeness of information and contact corresponding sales person to gain missing information.
- Evaluate opportunities to quote lower cost, equivalent materials.
- Initiate and follow up on new sourcing activities until complete.
- Schedule as appropriate to review with Management to communicate on new raw materials, extremely high volumes, new processes, etc.
to collectively determine quote strategy
- Communicate with the customer to determine customer requirements, including visiting customer facilities.
- Communicate with vendors in conjunction with purchasing to secure pricing for materials or subcontract operations.
- Assist sales with the negotiation of changes or improvements to parts and / or prints, prior to quoting.
- Request correction for processes (when inefficiencies are identified)
- Calculate set up times and cycle times of manufacturing processes
- Manage requests for expedited quotes from various sources and actively communicate target completion dates to the requestor(s).
- Generate cost estimates within the ERP system.
- Perform re-quotes as necessary to meet expected margin goals.
- Generate die lines / orders for process tooling and work instructions for future Job Travelers, using previously completed cost estimates.
This will involve the development of standard verbiage associated with each work center or cell.
- Communicate RFQ status and key performance metrics (turn-around time & success ratio) to respective Boyd salespeople and Manufacturing plant personnel.
- Build and maintain database of material specifications, pricing, distribution sources and manufacturers of raw materials, sub-contractors, etc.
in support of new RFQ’s and the division’s revenue and margin goals.
- Continually improve estimating processes and procedures for increased productivity and accuracy.
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience :
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent industry experience in Industrial Engineering or related field required
- Manufacturing experience is required; pressure sensitive adhesive experience or web material converting experience is preferred.
- 3 - 5 years’ experience working in manufacturing as a cost estimator is preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office : Excel, Word, Access
- Ability to utilize AutoCAD
