Purpose of Position
To provide professional nursing care and support for urgent care center patients receiving treatment and evaluation to all age groups.
Description
1.Under the direct supervision of the Physician assist in providing professional nursing care in the urgent care setting.
RN must correctly identify patient by asking name and date of birth. RN duties include triage, assessment, point of care testing, all physician ordered treatments, discharge and patient education.
2.Assess and treat patients in a fast paced, high volume urgent care setting.
3.Obtain and document all current patient medication and allergies within the EMR.
4.Assist providers in urgent care procedures. Implement orders for EKG’s, dressing changes, suture removal, ear lavages, splinting, injections, IV insertion, and IV infusions.
5.Initiate outpatient infusions as ordered. Establish and maintain IV access, or access PICC lines as indicated. Monitor patients vital signs per protocol and assess for any adverse reactions during the infusion and as indicated post infusion.
6.Answer general patient questions over the telephone and appropriately triage patient to the appropriate place for care.
7.Maintain and stock all rooms, IV carts, and other supplies as needed to meet the needs of the department. Check all equipment to ensure proper working order.
8.Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information at all times during their urgent care visit.
9.Assess personal and learning developmental needs and act as a resource person for other staff and patients. Participate in staff meetings and other activities that promote the growth and development of nursing and patient care.
10.Assist with secretarial / clerical duties as needed including greeting and registering patients, filing, answering phones and faxing documents.
11.Perform other work duties as requested / directed. Work cooperatively with co-workers and communicate politely with department employees, patients, and visitors.

Qualifications
- Current RN license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- IV insertion / therapy skills required.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
- Acute care experience required with preference given to those employees with past Emergency Department experience preferred.
