Position Announcement

The University of Oregon School of Law invites applications from entry-level and lateral candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor or tenured associate professor position focusing on intellectual property law and / or technology and the law.

This position will begin in August 2025. Candidates of all viewpoints and employing any research methodology or approach are welcome to apply.

Department or Program Summary

The University of Oregon School of Law (Oregon Law) is a dynamic, forward-thinking ABA-accredited law school. We are also Oregon’s only public law school, with our main campus in Eugene and a satellite campus in Portland, the state’s largest city.

Degrees offered include Juris Doctor (JD), Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Conflict and Dispute Resolution (CRES), and a minor in undergraduate legal studies.

Minimum Requirements

Assistant Professor

  • JD from an accredited law school or equivalent degree
  • Record of academic excellence
  • Demonstrated expertise and success, or the potential for success, in producing outstanding scholarship regarding intellectual property law, technology, and the law, or related fields
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching

Associate Professor (with tenure)

Include all of the above requirements for assistant professor, plus 6 years or more of professional experience, post-JD or equivalent degree, that aligns with the Law School’s tenure and promotion policy, which requires significant contributions across standard university faculty activities including scholarship, teaching, and service

Successful candidates must be able to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty with a range of disciplinary and ideological perspectives, culturally diverse backgrounds, and multiple intersectional identities, as well as be able to help advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the University community.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with substantial scholarship, teaching, research, and / or practice experience in intellectual property law and / or technology and the law, particularly patent law, intellectual property licensing, data analytics, data privacy law, artificial intelligence, and / or cybersecurity.
