About the Job
The Assistant Swim Coach will assist with the supervision and direction of a safe, positive, and organized competitive swimming program following the philosophy and goals of the YMCA.
The primary responsibility is the safety of participants during practice sessions. Essential duties include ensuring safety procedures are in place, maintaining practice control, assisting with rosters and attendance records, and designing practice sessions to teach competitive swimming skills.
Qualifications and Skills :
- Must be 18 years of age
- Obtain YMCA Swim Coach Certification within 3 months of hire
- Complete YMCA Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming and Diving within the first year
- Obtain ASCA level 1 certification within the first year
- Possess outgoing personality, be attentive, reliable, and a problem solver
- Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification, CPR, and First Aid certifications
Working Conditions :
- Must meet Lifeguarding prerequisites
- Ability to lift 40 pounds or more, stand / sit on the pool deck for up to 4 hours, actively teach swimming, communicate clearly, and respond to participants in distress
