There is an immediate need for evening and night shift applicants.
The Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a dynamic human services professional to serve as a Registered Nurse. The selected candidate directs and participates in the nursing care of children and young adults (ages 7 22+).
This pediatric chronic care hospital provides medical, rehabilitative, educational, recreational, habilitative, transitional, and complementary alternative medical services to children and young adults with multiple disabilities, assisting them to achieve their optimal level of independence in all aspects of life.
Schedule : Selected candidate must attend orientation the first week, Monday-Friday, 8 : 00am - 4 : 30pm.
D ays off are every other weekend with varied days off during the week.
- Day shift - 7 : 00am-3 : 30pm
- Evening shift - 3 : 00pm- 11 : 30pm
- Night shift - 11 : 15pm -7 : 15 am
Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime.
Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive) :
Provides primary nursing care to patients by administering medications, injections, and treatments by charting vital signs;
and by evaluating patients’ conditions and notifying physicians of specific abnormalities.
- Functions as charge nurse on assigned unit, directs nursing care of patients on assigned unit by developing an individual care plan for each patient, making nursing assignments, and holding conferences with staff regarding patients’ needs to ensure continuity of care and compliance with facility standards and regulations, provides nursing assessments for Evaluation Team Meetings.
- Responds to emergency situations and initiates emergency medical procedures. Information / work (patient, care provided, results of care, organizational performance) is coordinated and integrated through daily paperwork, shift report and documentation.
- Exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred, or discharged through Interdisciplinary Team and Discharge Process.
- Provides on-going supervision to subordinates regarding performance and need for training.
- Provides a safe and supportive environment for patients, family, visitors, and staff by knowledge of safety protocols, disaster drill, fire procedure.
- Acts as a preceptor for new employees; instructs personnel in nursing techniques, policies and procedures, and equipment.
Required Qualifications :
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing as well as the services to special client groups such as the mentally, physically, and / or emotionally handicapped.
- Demonstrated practice of the types and application of emergency medical procedures used such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and tourniquets.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and maintain accurate records.
- Skilled in giving and following oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
- Talent for reading and interpreting documents such as physician’s orders and treatment plans.
- Capacity to interact with individuals who are under physical and / or emotional stress and stressful situations.
Preferred Qualifications :
- At least one year of work experience with Pediatric and Adolescent patients.
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing, with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
- At least one year of acute care experience in a hospital setting.
- PALS certification.

Educational Services are provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In addition, PRHC offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities such as swimming, horseback riding, adaptive sports, and many opportunities for socialization for disabled children and young adults.
