We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer to join our team at a downstream plant in eastern North Carolina. The candidate will be supporting a new unit / process for Anhydrous Hydrogen Fluoride (AHS) and optimizing the current structure.
Key Responsibilities :
- Analyze and optimize chemical manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase production capacity while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Design and implement process modifications and improvements , collaborating with maintenance, operations, and R&D teams to ensure successful execution.
- Monitor key process parameters and equipment performance to identify areas of improvement and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Develop and maintain process flow diagrams (PFDs) , piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) , and other technical documentation for process improvements and projects.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action initiatives to resolve process-related issues and equipment failures.
- Provide technical guidance to operators, maintenance teams, and other engineering personnel.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company standards .
- Conduct risk assessments such as HAZOP studies to ensure process safety and mitigate operational risks.
- Participate in scale-up activities for new products or processes, ensuring that plant capabilities align with production goals.
- Assist with commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of new equipment or production lines.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean Six Sigma or Kaizen .
- Collaborate with project engineering teams to support capital projects and ensure alignment with process requirements.
- Develop and implement training programs for operators on new processes and equipment.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering field.
- 3+ years of experience in process engineering , preferably within a chemical or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of chemical processes , including reaction kinetics, heat and mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.
- Experience with process modeling and simulation software (e.g., Aspen, ChemCAD).
- Proficiency in using engineering documentation tools for P&IDs , PFDs , and technical drawings.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience in troubleshooting complex process issues.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements , including OSHA, EPA, and relevant industry standards.
Preferred Skills :
- Hands-on experience with chemical manufacturing equipment , such as reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers, and pumps.
- Familiarity with plant safety systems and mechanical integrity programs .
- Certifications in Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) or Lean Manufacturing are advantageous.
- Project management skills , including leading process improvement initiatives and capital projects.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance and waste management in chemical processes.
