Job Title : Teacherof the Blind and Visually Impaired - Itinerant

Position Summary :

This position is accountable for delivering school psychological servicesto students who are exceptional or though This position is responsiblefor planning, adapting and / or providing instruction to students who are blindand visually impaired and the staff that work with them, in order to enablethem to effectively and efficiently benefit from educational experiences.

t tobe exceptional who are being educated in local school districts and specialeducation centers. The purpose of the position is to determine studenteligibility for special education services and to provide psychologicalintervention that enhances the student's ability to participate in specialeducation services.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Instructs students in blindnessrelated skills that are found in the Expanded Core Curriculum :

compensatory or functional academicskills, including braille

orientation and mobility

social interaction skills

independent living skills

recreation and leisure skills

career education

use of assistive technology

sensory efficiency skills

self-determination

Adapts curriculum, plans lessonsand modifies special education programs and teaching methods in accordance tothe students' abilities and disabilities.

Conducts ongoing evaluations andprogress monitoring and adapts goals and objectives based on the gathered data.

Monitors student progress in andoutside the special education setting, through direct and indirectcommunication with the staff working with the student.

Maintains, modifies and ensures thesafety of the physical environment of the educational setting.

Maintains contact with families ofstudents and school administration, and shares information regarding studentprogress, school performance, advocacy and social / emotional issues, etc.

Evaluates student progress based onwork output and observation, determines goals, objectives and speciallydesigned instruction of the IEP and makes recommendations for the ordering ofmaterials in the student appropriate learning mediums.

Prepares Evaluation Reports,Reevaluation Reports, IEP's, progress reports, federal and state mandatedreports, educational records, classroom observation records, progressmonitoring records and other forms as necessary that are legally defensible.

Ensures and maintains studentconfidentiality and protects student data in accordance with the AIU policy.

Collaborates and consults withschool district personnel and other members of the student's IEP team.

Utilizes BVISP Wiki to facilitateand expedite communication.

Participates in staff developmentopportunities.

Participates in EducatorEffectiveness Evaluations and provides sources of evidence to supervisor.

Monitors and obtains ACT 48 and orACVREP credits in order to maintain certification

Maintain a professional demeanor atall times, following all AIU policies, building procedures and Pennsylvaniaprofessional code of conduct.

Work collaboratively withco-workers; including the proper management of support staff within the classroom.

Utilize e-mail, Microsoft Officeprograms, and student informational systems (i.e. IEP Writer) to managecommunication, information and records.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Education ofthe Visually Impaired required.

PA Certificate in Teacher of theBlind / Visually Impaired required.

ACVREP O&M Certification highlypreferred.

Ability to effectively presentinformation and articulately respond to questions from administrators, staff,parents, students, business and educational partners, and the general public.

Excellent written and oralcommunication skills.

Self-motivator, independent,cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.

Ability and experience working as amember of a team.

Skilled in the use of MicrosoftOffice Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook, andwillingness to experiment and work with new technologies.

Ability to comply with the AIUConduct policy.

AdditionalRequirements :

CurrentAct 114, Act 34 and Act 151 required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1year of hire date).

SchoolPersonnel Health Record and TB Test (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by HumanResources prior to hire date.

The teacher must have repetitive movement offingers and hands for keyboarding.

Be able to lift or carry up to 25 pounds.

Be able to bend or twist at the neck and back.

Specific vision includes peripheral vision,close vision, and color vision.

Be able to stand for extended periodsthroughout the day.
