Function-
Provide enhanced direct care support and services to an individual in a residential setting who receives one-to-one support due to behavioral needs.
Assist the individual in becoming a full community member while developing and maintaining the social skills necessary to foster natural relationships.
A strong emphasis is placed on following the positive behavioral support plan written by the BCBA.
Pay Rate-
$17.77 hourly rate with an additional $2.00 differential.
Job Duties-
A. Supervision, Training, and Treatment of Persons with Disabilities.
- Responsible for direct supervision, care, and guidance of the assigned one-to-one program participant with complex behavioral and medical challenges.
- Applies ethical and best practices relating to program participant rights and Agency policy regarding abuse prevention and liability issues in daily practices.
- Implements agency safety program, practices, and procedures.
- Utilizes agency protocols in urgent and emergency situations (medical, behavioral, environmental).
- Follows program recommendations provided by IDT professionals (psychological, OT, speech, medical professionals, behaviorists, and physical therapy) as prescribed.
- Follows the positive behavioral support plan developed by BCBA.
- Uses common sense and sound decision-making in providing services to individuals with disabilities.
- Ensures the health and safety of program participants utilizing best practices.
- Communicate regularly with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and the director. Follows chain of command in daily procedures / processes / events.
- Provides transportation services to the participant as required.
- Provides hands-on instruction to the participant for ADLs and personal care.
- Plans and carries out community experiences to address program participants’ needs, personal preferences, and social integration.
- Participate in meetings related to participants’ service implementation.
- Create daily reports that accurately describe participant interaction, behavior, and progress toward achieving set goals.
- Must be Medication Administration Certified in CT per CT-DDS regulations. Administration of medication as prescribed.
B. Recordkeeping.
- Records data to assist in measuring baseline skill levels for assessment reports and initial testing. Assists in the development of program participant training methodologies and strategies.
- Responsible for the collection and maintenance of all prescribed documentation daily for the assigned program participant, including, but not limited to, the following :
- attendance recording
- behavioral data
- goal-related data
- payroll / production data
- anecdotal reports
- incident and accident reports
- seizure reports
- general event reports
C. Other Responsibilities.
- Maintains all required training, delegations, and certifications.
- Attends in-service training and applies the following concepts : emergency intervention, task analysis; positive behavioral support plan, community integration;
agency goals and objectives; gentle teaching or the try another way; alternative forms of communication, and time studies.
- Responsible for reading and becoming familiar with Staff Personnel Handbook and all other related Agency Policies and Procedures.
- Carries out Quality Assurance and Outcome Measurement
- Implements quality-control programs.
- Maintains clean driving record throughout employment.
Qualifications-
- High school diploma required; experience in intellectual disabilities field preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Experience working with individuals with seizure disorders and complex medical and behavioral needs is highly preferred.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Organize and prioritize projects.
- Work productively with other agency-based entities.
- Complete forms and perform general computer-entry tasks.
- Maintain composure in high-pressure situations.
- Communicate sensitive information using tact and sound judgment.
- Implement alternative forms of communication to encourage personal choice.
- Develop short and long-term plans.
- Ability to deal with a wide variety of people as the Agency’s representative.
- Understand / instruct in basic intervention trends for individuals with intellectual disabilities (programmatic and behavioral).
- Complete surveys and carry out outcome measurements
- CPR / First Aid, PMT, and CT-DDS Medication Administration Certification.
