Overview

Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Inc. is part of the Mass General Brigham system. This is a Per Diem position in the Emergency Department.

Job location : 30 Locust Street. This role reports to the Nurse Manager, Emergency Department and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures. This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • The Emergency Department Technician is responsible for receiving patients, gathering patient registration information, ordering tests, generating specimen labels, and performing phlebotomy on all patient populations.

Qualifications

  • Education

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Phlebotomy certificate / diploma required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

  • Licenses and Credentials

    • Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (Massachusetts) – Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services required; Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

  • Experience

    • Previous ED technician experience preferred; experience working with mentally ill and dually diagnosed populations preferred.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • CPI training required within six months of hire.
  • Ability to perform routine patient care activities under the direction of licensed nursing personnel (e.g., EKG, phlebotomy, wound care, vital signs) as part of on-the-job training.
  • Competency in nursing assistant skills and phlebotomy skills required by the end of orientation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and handle high-stress situations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology; interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills; ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
