Job Description
Title : Long-term Substitute Preschool Teacher, 2 year old classroom
Reports to : Preschool Director
Status : Full time, Non-Exempt Employee
A Preschool Teacher at Marin Primary & Middle School is first and foremost committed to serving our school mission of inspiring joyful learning, honoring each child, and building connections to inspire all children to make a difference.
A Preschool Teacher is a passionate and creative member of a team of two co-teachers. This position entails collaborative planning of curriculum and shared responsibilities for instruction in a supportive working relationship.
Within a developmentally-informed and play-based program, preschool teachers are encouraged and supported to create meaningful experiences for young students.
Together, we celebrate creativity, exploration, emergent curriculum, and the positive development of the whole child. Teachers work together to understand every student from multiple perspectives, to build meaningful relationships with students and their families, maintain high standards, and promote a love of learning.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide for the safety and well-being of all students at all times by maintaining a safe and secure environment, in which each child feels understood, nurtured, and challenged.
- Design and implement programs and activities to actively engage students in making connections, solving problems, and thinking independently in a variety of developmental areas including physical, language, cognitive, literacy, mathematics, science, social-emotional learning, and the arts.
- Create an inviting, organized, and vibrant developmentally appropriate learning environment that reflects the learning objectives of the class and age level.
- Document student progress, complete developmental assessments, lead regular parent conferences, and convene additional meetings with parents and other school staff as necessary.
- Create a partnership with parents and share information about the program and their child's progress through regular written communication and parent conferences.
- Defend the dignity and worth of each member of the community and create a safe learning environment that fosters respect, understanding, and acceptance of differences;
always model appropriate and ethical behavior.
- Collaborate enthusiastically with a team of faculty, staff, and administrators, participating actively in faculty meetings and working effectively with colleagues to further the development of the school's program.
- Participate fully in the life of the grade level or class, including field trips, student performances, and other events.
Position requirements include but not limited to :
- A minimum of 12 ECE units to meet State of California requirements for preschool teachers
- Previous experience teaching in an early childhood setting
- Strong skills in collaboration, verbal and written communication
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including patience, positivity, discretion and good judgment
Hours of employment : 7 : 30am-3 : 30pm, Monday through Friday
Salary Range : $27.00-$30.00 per hour
Employment ends on December 20, 2024.
Physical Requirements
In the course of a workday in the Marin Primary & Middle School preschool, a teacher should expect to :
- Sit, walk, stand
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Bend from the neck and waist
- Squat, climb, kneel, crawl
- Twist from the neck and waist
- Withstand exposure to noise, which may be excessive on occasion
- Use both hands for a variety of tasks, including :
- Pushing
- Pulling
- Grasping
- Fine manipulation
- Reaching, both above and below shoulder level
- Using a keyboard
In addition :
- Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination.
- Some tasks require oral communications ability.
- Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.
The frequency with which any teacher may need to use any of the skills and physical requirements listed above vary on a daily basis.
However, any of them may be necessary at any time on an emergency basis, and there are some situations in which one or more of them may be necessary for an extended period of time.
It is desirable that a preschool teacher can drive cars and other vehicles.
