SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY :
We are looking for a Registered Nurse who will positively impact student success by providing health care services aimed at helping students attain an optimum level of physical, social, and emotional health.
Our Registered Nurse plays a key role in ensuring that students receive equitable access to school-based health services through authentic engagement.
In order to coordinate a comprehensive student health program, the Registered Nurse works in close conjunction with other IPS staff.
As a member of the Unified Student Supports Team, you will have opportunities to collaborative with supportive colleagues who put students first.
WHAT YOU’LL DO :
The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Help students attain an optimum level of physical, social, and emotional health.
Evaluate health status / complaints of students and take appropriate action within the legal scope of nursing practice.
Provide health counseling services to students and families with health-related problems and links to resources as needed.
Corresponds with parents on the health needs of their child.
Perform and supervise skilled nursing procedures as ordered by a physician / provider.
Render emergency first aid care, complete incident reports when applicable.
Recognizes and acts on communicable diseases present in school / community including mandatory reporting to the State Dept of Health.
Administer medication according to IPS policy and procedure.
Administers, monitors, trains staff, and supervises specialized health care services and medication prescribed by a provider and performed by unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP), 1 : 1 aides, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), medical assistants, QMAs, and provides resources as needed.
Provide school staff with health education in-services as needed.
Participate with team members for student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), and 504 plans, providing expertise and completing health assessments as indicated for initial, annual, and re-evaluations.
Provide health assessments for students upon request of teachers, parents or staff.
Informs appropriate school personnel of a student with health issues, that may need
accommodations during the school hours
Interprets the defined health problem, application of school Health law's, current trends,
and general health information to the school staff and parents.
Develops Individualized Health Plans for students with chronic illnesses or special health care needs.
Acts as a liaison between parents, provider, and staff to verify medical needs, obtain physician authorization, and notify appropriate district Personnel
Serves as a health education resource for students, staff, and families.
Monitor and maintain up-to-date and accurate health records, including immunization records and medical alerts, in SchoolCare, electronic health record system, and / or PowerSchool when applicable as required by law, board policy, and administrative guidelines.
Assist with scheduling and coordinating state-mandated health screenings, including collecting and reporting records for the annual Indiana School Health Report.
Monitors compliance with immunization requirements according to legal mandates and District policy and procedures. Oversees follow-up with non-compliant cases.
Participates on school wellness team following the district wellness policy.
Assists in identification of safety and health hazards on school sites.
Maintains clinic space and stock of clinic health supplies.
Monitors and maintains health services equipment.
Adheres to all regulations and policies regarding confidentiality of health records and information.

On a regular day, as the Registered Nurse, you might :
Provide acute and chronic care health services for students.
Coorindate health screenings
Review and enter health information data such as vaccinations
Provide expertise for IEP and 504 meetings.
Write Individualized Health Plans.
Provide health education for students and parents.
Support medical needs of medically fragile students.
Advocate for resources and services for students and families.
Work collaboratively with other staff

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's or Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university nursing program
At least three (5) years of nursing experience - pediatric or school nursing experience preferred
Valid Indiana License in Nursing
Current CPR Certification
Working knowledge of federal and state nursing laws, rules, and practices including school nursing
