Occ S ummaryIndependently plan and provide professional nursing care for patientsin accordance with physician orders and established policies andprocedures.

Provide nursing services topatients and families inaccor dance with the scopeof the RN as defined by the North CarolinaBoard of N ursing.

Work PerformedPlan, provide, supervise anddocument professionalnursing careutilizingthe nursing process for patie nts in accordance with physicianorders andestablished policies and proce dures.

Use professional nursingjudgment toindividualize the plan of care based on assessment of thepatient's baseline needs and response to care .

Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed andunlice nsed care providers.Assist other nursingpersonnel in the delivery of nur sing care and actas team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unitas assigned.

Monitor andinitiate corrective action tomai ntain the environment ofcare includingequipment and material resources.P articipate inown professional development by maintaining requiredcompete ncies, identifying learning needs andseeking appropriateassistance or ed ucational offerings.

Act as preceptorand support the development of other staff andformallearners.Participatein the identification of clinical or operational performanceimprovementopportunities and in performance impr ovementactivities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exception : Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are encouraged to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within seven years of their start date.

Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.

Experience

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.

CN Is are eligible for promotion to CN II by meeting criteria set forth by the DUHS Vizient Nurse Residency Program within 12 months of hire.

Promotions can occur at 12 months of hire, but no later than 18 months of hire.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
