Assistant Director, Engineering Construction Management

Some of what you'll be doing :

As an Assistant Director, Engineering Construction Management, you will manage and lead multiple large and complex Capital Investment Programs (CIP) major works projects Port-wide, which may include Aviation Terminal, Infrastructure and Baggage systems.

You will provide contract and program development and management and establish the business processes and policies necessary to deliver the Port’s programs and projects.

  • You will build, supervise, and develop Engineering - Construction Management teams and multiple CIP Program teams, Construction Program Leaders, and senior level Construction Managers.
  • You will furnish senior level technical expertise and manage all aspects of multiple large complex CIP programs with multi-year (5+) durations involving multiple Port business Divisions.
  • You will lead multiple large and complex construction programs that consist of multiple public works construction projects utilizing low bid and alternate contracting methods such as GCCM, Design Build and Progressive Design Build.
  • You will develop and incorporate specialized contract terms and conditions, with Legal and Central Procurement Office (CPO) support, which address highly specific issues related to large and complex contracts and programs.
  • You will provide leadership, coordination, planning, scheduling, and budgets for all assigned programs and projects involving multiple project sponsors, Port departments, permit agencies, Port customers and cities and agencies.
  • You will provide leadership and management for construction of multiple large and complex Capital Improvement programs and projects, including alternative construction methodology projects.
  • You will continually manage updates to the General Conditions for Major Construction Contracts.

Who you are :

  • Experienced You have eight (8) years of experience in major capital improvement program including construction project management, inspection, cost estimating, scheduling, and / or payment processing and four (4) years of experience supervising staff and managing a construction function.
  • Desired We hope you have a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or Business Administration and / or you are certified as a Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP).

Knowledgeable You possess expert knowledge in construction project and program management, including cost estimation, budget management, and scheduling.

Additionally, you are familiar with socio-economic programs such as apprenticeship, DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise), and Women & Minority Business Enterprise (WMBE).

  • Project Management You will effectively project management, that involves time management (prioritization, deadlines, and timely completion), budget adherence (resource allocation, waste minimization, and staying within budget), and team coordination for successful execution.
  • Strategic Thinker - You will allocate resources effectively. Consider trade-offs, prioritize initiatives with your team and leadership, and create plans that align with organizational goals.

What else you need to know :

Work Schedule Your normal work schedule will be Monday Friday, 8 : 00 : 00 (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

You may be required to work during emergencies.

  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid / in-office setting at Management’s discretion, and you may occasionally work outside visiting projects on active construction sites.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle.

If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

  • Safety Requirements You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Security Requirements As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
