Specific Duties
- Conduct face-to-face, online, asynchronous, and / or drop-in tutoring sessions on assigned subject area(s) with students both individually and in groups, helping students develop their own best practices for becoming self-sufficient learners.
- Review resources available through the ASC, Wilson Library, and all of Libraries & Learning Commons, referring students to resource materials or staff members based on their individual needs and ability levels.
- Gather and report accurate data for each student and / or consultation.
- Attend and actively participate in all mandatory trainings and meetings, including fall and spring orientation; weekly small group meetings;
online tutoring and technology training workshops; and other relevant trainings required for specific subjects or focus areas (e.
g. group facilitation methods for those offering group sessions, research strategies for those offering research support, etc.)
- Complete supplemental ASC and Libraries & Learning Commons activities, including review, edit and / or create resources for the ASC, ASC class visits, reflections, observations, mentoring, and co-tutoring sessions, as assigned by ASC professional staff.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director, Associate Director and ASC professional staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- A strong academic background (minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.25
- Ability to communicate effectively to help students construct their own understandings of course materials.
- Ability to listen to the needs of students and work cooperatively in setting realistic and productive learning goals.
- Sensitivity to the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds of ASC students.
- Dependability and personal accountability.
- Self-motivation, self-regulation, and a desire to mature and learn in a professional teaching / learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to apply growth learning, self-regulated learning, scaffolding, metacognition, and similar learning strategies in tutoring practice.
