ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Patient Care :
- Perform thorough routine eye examinations.
- Identify the patient's visual alertness, field of vision, and hand-eye coordination.
- Diagnose sight problems.
- Prescribe corrective lenses.
- Diagnose and assess eye disease such as diabetes and liver failure.
- Write prescriptions and inform patients about medications prescribed.
- Consult with other physicians and specialists as needed.
- Complete medical forms and documentation related to patient care.
- Answer patient telephone inquiries as needed.
- Make referrals to other agencies and providers, with follow up care provided.
- Encourage eye health promotion, eye disease prevention, and eye health maintenance. Provide patient advocacy, as appropriate for site.
- Participate in Peer Review process.
- Other duties as assigned.
Administrative / Education Duties :
- Collaborate with Benefits Counselors and Outreach staff to ensure appropriate patient scheduling and flow.
- Observe, implement, and promote federal regulations.
Salary : $150,000
Requirements :
Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited institution; New York State Optometry license; Optometry Board Certification;
minimum of two years' clinical experience preferable; ability to speak Spanish or other languages preferable.
