What qualifications are required for this position?

You Are Also :

Registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as one of the following : a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or AMFT, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or ACSW, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or LPCC intern, or a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP)

Someone with a Master’s Degree in clinical and / or counseling psychology or related field

Someone with excellent organizational and strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.

Experienced in providing therapy, crisis intervention, group counseling, general experience working with people who are survivors of violence, domestic violence and human trafficking.

Able to provide a copy of a college degree and California Board License or current Associated registration. Professional license or associate number from Board of Behavioral Sciences must remain valid at all times during your employment at Ruby's Place.

Able to move between different treatment approaches (clinical case management and evidence-based, trauma-focused psychotherapy) depending on the needs of the client.

Able to demonstrate cultural humility and a strength based, recovery philosophy and provide support to a multidisciplinary team.

Understanding of the dynamics of trauma caused from violent crimes and successful treatments for these traumas.

In possession of a valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and be approved by Ruby's Place insurance as a driver in order to drive agency vehicles.

Able to complete a background check, fingerprinting (Live Scan), and completion of all Community Care Licensing requirement documents.

Able to meet all licensing requirements of Community Care Licensing.

What You Will Do

You will report to the Director of Clinical Services. This position is a combination of telehealth and flexibility in visiting our UC shelter or other shelters as needed.

In this role you will provide mental health services to our clients as well as unaccompanied minors and help support the staff with psychoeducation and professional consultation as it pertains to mental health.

This position will also provide you the opportunity to share your knowledge of mental health through presentations and collaboration with other providers within and outside of Ruby’s Place.

Responsibilities include

Carries a caseload of 15-18 clients with seven of them being unaccompanied minors (UC) residing at our UC shelter and complete progress notes for approximately 10-18 clients per week.

Visits assigned shelters as needed in order to provide in person individual and group counseling.

Conducts clinical intakes of new clients using a trauma sensitive approach and identifies service needs when appropriate.

Assessment includes identifying presenting problems, psychosocial history, mental status exam, and DSM-5 diagnosis.

Clinical interventions include : crisis intervention on-site at any of the shelters and / or while providing telehealth.

Clinical services also include short-term, trauma-sensitive individual and group psychotherapy as well as comprehensive clinical case management, liaison with other health care providers, and referral and accompaniment to community services when appropriate.

Caseload consists of complex clients, all of whom have histories of trauma, including acute and chronic physical and sexual abuse, and are victims of interpersonal violence such as sexual assault, physical assault, domestic violence, gunshot wounds, political torture, and immigration trauma.

Many clients also have concurrent medical problems, psychosocial problems, and may have substance abuse problems as well.

Utilizes knowledge of the mental health, medical, and community resources in Oakland, San Francisco and other surrounding counties and maintains familiarity with new programs.

Develops a comprehensive treatment and service plan for each client, integrating knowledge from a wide range of human service resources.

Facilitates coordination of services among various agencies and complete required case management services to meet the client’s needs.

Complete UC training that is required under our grant guidelines.

Flexibility around unfolding the grant to contribute to clients' continuity of care , close collaborations with all departments and the ability to navigate ambiguity while working with clients.

This clinician needs to be open to working with clients of all ages.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

Clinical Supervision, Teaching, Training, and Program Development :

May provide supervision to clinical interns if meets the qualifications to supervise.

Participates in in-service training and case conferences.

Conducts community presentations and training to partner organizations and mental health providers.

May assist with program development, including identification and implementation of types of appropriate measurement-guided mental health treatment.

Record Keeping and Administration and Other Duties :

Maintains client records according to California, and licensing requirements.

Records data in client’s chart.

Meets program productivity standards; Completes productivity forms, clinical documentation, and other documentation of services in a timely fashion.

Assists in processing Quality Improvement requests.

Assists in data collection for program evaluation and research purposes; Works collaboratively with the clinical multi-disciplinary team.

Attends staff meetings, administrative and reflective supervision and other assigned meetings.

Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures in relation to duties of the job.

Maintain the required documentation in order to meet UC grant guidelines.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities :

Have knowledge in working with immigrant and refugee, runaway, juvenile justice systems, LGBTQ and / or chronically mentally youth.

Has had experience with those who have had prior incarcerations and or have done harm.

Familiarity with diagnosing clients and developing effective treatment plans.

Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.

Excellent organizational and strong interpersonal skills.

Awareness of social service agencies, state regulations and APA / BBS standards as it relates. to client treatment, client rights and client / client confidentiality.

Open-minded, non-judgmental, flexible, and have good humor.

Complete functional timesheets by assigned due dates in compliance with time allocations.

Actively participate in reflective supervision sessions.

Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures related to job duties.

Working Conditions

This position will require both in person and telehealth in order to meet the needs of our clients. Time spent on-site versus remote working will be discussed and agreed upon with your supervisor.

You are expected to be available on-site as necessary given business needs. You must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform physical activities, including lifting up to 25 pounds.

You will be subject to frequent interruptions and must be able to multitask and handle stress.

Local travel in the greater Bay Area may be required.

The pay scale for the Mental Health Clinician position is $85,000-$100,000 per year (exempt) for a therapist licensed with the Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) and $75,000-$85,000 (exempt) for an associate therapist registered with the BBS.

This is a full-time, 40 hours a week, salaried position. This is a hybrid position (flex work), with some days required in our Castro Valley Office.
