Job Description : PURPOSE OF JOB :
PURPOSE OF JOB :
To perform all activities related to hot food preparation of meals for patients, cafeteria patrons and catered functions, constantly striving to improve the quality of products prepared and served.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
1. Prepares meals for patients (400+ per day), cafeteria patrons (800+ per day) and assist with the food production for catered functions as necessary.
Prepares and cooks to order foods requiring short preparation time. Typically, performs fast food cooking duties in preparing food items to be served to customers.
Follows basic recipes and / or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments.
2. Uses and cleans and sanitizes equipment, utensils, the actual kitchen facility under the direction of the supervisor.
Equipment includes-tilt fryer steamers, steam kettles, ovens, warmers, mixers, slicer, buffalo chopper, food processor, fryers, grill and knives.
3. Reads food order or receives verbal instructions on food required by patron, and prepares and cooks food according to instructions.
4. Good preparation techniques utilized. Completes all safety training and adheres to safety procedures in daily operations.
Prepares foods by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry or fish for culinary use.
Utilizes proper food handling techniques and following HACCP

Education
Able to read, write and communicate fluently in the English language.
Typical Requirements :
Education or Equivalent Experience : High School diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
Supervisor / Managerial Experience : None
Function Specific Experience : 0 - 2 years of related work experience.
Food Service or other hospitality related experience preferred
Other Skills : Able to perform the following
Good working knowledge of food preparation
Requires familiarity of kitchen equipment
Typically requires limited cooking experience
