Job Description :
Director of Editorial and Media Relations at the University of Nebraska at Omaha . This position is open to job seekers with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
Position Summary :
Reporting to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer in the Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications, the Director of Editorial & Media Relations is responsible for guiding strategic internal and external communication to protect and promote UNO's brand.
Key responsibilities include :
- Identifying earned media opportunities and developing relationships with journalists.
- Tracking media mentions and evaluating Return on Investment (ROI) for strategically beneficial stories.
- Guiding editorial content creation and leveraging owned media channels.
- Serving as a point person for media requests, including during emergencies or crisis events.
Job Duties :
Media Relations and Reputation Management :
- Direct daily media relations and reputation management operations.
- Strategic media outreach and responding to media requests.
- Guiding university response for incidents posing reputational risk.
- Producing and distributing media kits.
Team Management :
- Oversee editorial support in alignment with campus priorities.
- Manage a team including a Senior Integration Content Manager and a Communications Assistant.
Collaboration with College Communicators :
Foster collaboration with college communicators to develop stories.
Crisis Communication :
Guide crisis communication and serve on UNO's Incident Command team.
Chancellor Office Communication :
Provide communication support to the Office of the Chancellor.
Other Duties :
Participate in relevant university work groups or committees as needed.
Required and Preferred Qualifications :
Required Education : Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
Required Experience : Minimum of four years' progressive professional experience in public relations, media relations, public affairs, and / or journalism / mass communications.
Preferred Education : Master's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
Preferred Experience : Previous experience in higher education.
