General Information

The rapidly growing Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering at Chapman University invites applications for tenure-track assistant or associate professor positions in the areas of computer science, computer engineering, and electrical engineering.

This position begins effective August 2025.

Opened in the fall of 2019, the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering offers undergraduate degree programs in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, and Software Engineering, along with a new graduate program, a MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

The School also offers several interdisciplinary minors and themed inquiry programs which allow students from across other Chapman programs to explore engineering.

Responsibilities

Duties include establishing or continuing a research program in the candidate's field; teaching; and mentoring students. Tenure track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research / scholarly activity, teaching, and service.

The successful candidate will teach 4 courses per year. These courses may include : Foundations of Design and Fabrication (ENGR 101), Computer Science II (CPSC 231), Computer Networks (CPSC 353), Data Structures and Algorithms (CPSC350), Programming Languages (CPSC 354), Operating Systems (CPSC 380), Algorithm Analysis (CPSC 406), Electronics and Circuits (EENG 200 / 300), Analog, Digital, and Mixed Signal Processing (EENG 515), Cybersecurity 1 (ISP 363), Systems Programming (CENG 231), Digital Logic (CENG 330), and Robotics (CENG 390), among others, including graduate-level courses.

Qualifications

Required

A Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, computational science, data science, software engineering, or electrical engineering is required.

Demonstrated promise in scholarship and teaching, with a clear direction for integrating research and pedagogy.

Applicants considered for the rank of associate are expected to have an established record of scholarship and teaching, with evidence of having integrated research and pedagogy.

Whereas we welcome applicants from all disciplines within these fields, preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds and research interests in theoretical computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, human centered design, computer networks, robotics, hardware design, electronics and circuits, simulation, or related areas.

Well-qualified candidates with substantial teaching and / or supporting industry experience will be considered for appointment at the advanced rank of associate professor.

Preferred

Industry experience in the candidate's field of expertise is preferred.
