SUMMARY : The Assistant Director of Employment Services, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Employment Services (SDOES), provides leadership, vision and oversight of the Employment Services Department, charged with supporting individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in search of employment opportunities.

Provides primary oversight for offsite offices, including Thousand Oaks, Burbank and eventually, Santa Clarita and other sites.

Forges strong relationships with local employers, and provides guidance, inspiration and supervision to the Program Coordinators, Quality Assurance team, Job Coaches, Job Developers and all members of the ES team.

Acts as the department lead for the Department in the absence of the Director of Employment Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following :

  • In collaboration with the Senior Director of Employment Services, leads the Employment Services Department in serving our Members on their pathway to employment.
  • Directly manages the day-to-day operation of the Employment Services Program, including Pathways, Supported Employment, and Direct Placement programs for all off-sites, and provides back up supports for these functions for the main campus.
  • Manages annual event recognizing partner employers.
  • Supervises Program Coordinators, Job Coaches and other key positions. This includes interviewing, hiring, training and evaluating performance for these positions.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director of Employment Services, creates and monitors the yearly budget for this division.

Assists with A / R as needed for the Employment Services group of services. Monitors monthly financial statements and makes adjustments as needed to meet or exceed budgeted targets.

  • Responsible for handing the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for offsite locations. Assists with accreditation at the main campus as needed
  • Oversee onboarding mentoring program for new ES hires.
  • Responsible for submitting all Incident Reports in a timely, accurate fashion.
  • Leads or oversees the leadership for the monthly Job Coach meetings.
  • Ensures that the department complies with all policies, procedures, paperwork at timeline requirements and meets or exceeds all regulatory and funding standards.
  • Reviews progress notes to ensure they meet or exceed CARF standards.
  • Responsible to complete all the Regional Center, Department of Rehabilitation, and other funding partners' intakes.
  • Responsible for oversight of all program intakes and exits from the program.
  • Provides direct oversight for staff to attend and develop IPP meetings, and personally attends some meetings as needed.
  • Carries a cell phone during Member's working hours (7 days a week) and is accessible to staff and Members as needed.
  • Ensures that time sheets for this division are submitted in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attends community functions on a regular basis, with a focus on the geographic areas outside of the main NH campus.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned by SDOES, VP of Strategic Growth, or the CEO
  • Responsible for submitting all billing for the department in a timely and accurate basis.
  • Coordinates annual Employer Recognition Breakfast for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM).

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following :

  • Maintains proficiency in all Employment Services and computer applications and databases as required for this position.
  • Represents the Employment Services Department as a member of the Safety Council, DEIB, or other similar committees
  • Attends meetings and trainings as required by the Director of Employment Services.
  • Supports the Agency's mission and partners with others to accomplish the mission.
  • Maintains the highest professional and ethical standards at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Employment Services.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : Directly supervises Job Coaches, Program Coordinators and other key positions as needed. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;

rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty with skill, tact and a command of best practices for employing individuals with special needs.

Must possess the knowledge of the needs of persons with developmental disabilities and / or traumatic brain injuries and have the ability to relate effectively with persons with disabilities.

He / she must be able to manage crisis situations and have access to the necessary resources for Members to live and work effectively in the community.

Ability to organize, administer and coordinate a program and to act decisively and competently. Good verbal and written communication skills are also required.

Belief in the agency philosophy and in the dignity of the individual; demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and supportive manner with staff, Members, and the community;

must also demonstrate the ability to organize work in an efficient and timely manner to meet the demands of the job.

Computer competency in business applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel is required. Ability to learn other applications in use by the agency and to improve efficiency of responsibilities is also required.

Candidates with previous history in compliance (CARF or similar external review bodies) is preferred but not required.

The individual must have a reliable vehicle, a valid California Driver License, and good driving record, and proof of adequate vehicle insurance.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : Must have an associate's degree in rehabilitation, human services or other related field.

Bachelor's degree preferred. A minimum of three-five years' experience working with the developmentally disabled adults in a managerial position is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret in English general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write in English reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in English and respond to questions from groups of managers, Members, customers, and the general public.
