Within the framework of a holistic human development model of a family-supported, strength-focused, and hope-engendering practice, an individual hired as the Education Specialist will facilitate the oversight and implementation of our Educational Program development and implementation at our off-site school-aged after-school programs and provide direct oversight at each location they are assigned to.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate with the Program Director for funded programs to determine the appropriate curriculum for the various grade levels and curriculum development.
  • Adapt program lessons and activities to align with each grade's NYS Common Core Learning Standards.
  • Allow 9 hours per week per program for lesson planning, staff observations, and meetings with the director.
  • Write and check weekly lesson plans for scheduled activities.
  • Observe staff during activities and give constructive feedback to improve lessons and activities.
  • Facilitate training on classroom management and lesson follow-through, among other topics later determined by staff observation and intervention.
  • Keep activities aligned with the common core standards, host school curriculum, and Department of Youth and Development.
  • Community Development guidelines and NYSED guidelines are used in some cases.
  • Provide and plan professional development for the on-site staff.
  • It may require additional responsibilities as determined by your supervisor.
  • Willing to travel to multiple locations.

Specifications for Experience and Training :

  • Experience working in a classroom with groups of 20 students or more for at least one year.
  • Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and alignment.
  • Organizational skills to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity in working with people from a very diverse number of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and an understanding of various work styles.
  • Computer literate, including experience with Google Drive applications.

Qualifications :

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Education

Knowledge of the NYS CCLS and lesson planning.

NYS Teaching certification preferred.
