About the role :
We are a fast-growing technology firm based in Arlington, VA. As the Accountant, you are responsible for the accounting operations.
This is a hands-on role where you will be working directly with company principals and senior management.
We envision this to be a part time, hourly role as we bring back in house our outsourced accounting function. We anticipate approximately 25 hrs a week, and unless there is a specific operational deadline (like payroll), can be fairly flexible on schedule.
Given aspects of the work, we anticipate this being a 100% in the office position. We can be flexible about going hybrid after the first three to six months.
Compensation : $55 / hr, no benefits. paid office parking. office dog.
General Accounting : In this capacity you will be hands on in all aspects of the accounting role where you will be responsible for ensuring deadlines are met, entering and reconciling transactions, and making sure transactions have appropriate approvals and back up.
You are the Accounting Department.
Daily activities may include :
- Invoicing
- Payroll
- Cash management
- Revenue and expense accruals
- Accounts payable
- Equipment inventory
- Credit card entries
- Reporting
You will be responsible for ensuring all transactions are entered into the accounting software and reconciled on a monthly basis.
Timeliness, accuracy and a focus on deadlines are key requirements for this part of the role.
We expect this to be 40% of your time.
Project Accounting : In this capacity, you will own the billing process. Specifically, you will be supporting project leads in ensuring that their project cost accounting is accurate and revenue is recognized.
Leave nothing on the table! Your efforts will help them focus on billable activities. You will be using our project management system, MavenLink, auditing contracts, updating project budgets and supporting reports, generating invoices, and communicating with clients.
Daily activities may include :
- MavenLink Project set up and maintenance
- Managing the monthly billing process and related tasks in MavenLink, Excel, Word and QuickBooks
- Auditing contracts to ensure that billing is accurate
- Coordinating team members involved in client billing
- Updating status reports will billing information
- Ensuring that all time is submitted and approved on a weekly basis, including staff communications
- Serving as lead for client billing communications
You will be responsible for ensuring that revenue is recognized in a timely and accurate manner. Organization, communications, attention to detail and follow through are key aspects of this role.
We expect this to be 50-55% of your time.
Employee Support and Benefits Management : In this capacity you will be responsible for managing our relationship with ADP and benefits programs, onboarding boarding new staff, and any unplanned employee support activity (regarding compensation / benefits) where a little TLC goes a long way.
Daily activities may include :
- PTO management and adjustments
- Employee onboarding / offboarding paperwork and set up
- Employee equipment management
- ADP and 401k management
- Other benefits projects as assigned.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
You will be responsible for making sure that employee compensation benefits are accurate and records are compliant. Compassion, communications, attention to detail / organization are key qualities in this part of the role.
We expect this to be 5-10% of your time.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will. . .
have 7 10 years of experience
have strong, working knowledge of corporate finance and other accounting theory, principles, and practices
possess advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office, including heavy lifting in MS Excel.
be proficient in processing payroll, preferably with ADP experience
be proficient in accounting systems, preferably QuickBooks
problem-solve and work independently
demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
be able to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse staff, colleagues, and clients.
enjoy learning and actively working to expand your knowledge base and worldview (tech or otherwise)
