Job Summary :
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who provides comprehensive care for oncology and hematology patients and families.
The NP manages acute and chronic illnesses and promotes the treatment of oncological, hematological, and related conditions.
Department : Clinical
Status : Salaried / Exempt
Reports to : Lead NP
Schedule : M-F, 8am to 5pm. Some possible weekend and nighttime responsibilities.
Duties Summary :
The NP duties include but are not limited to :
- Coordinates activities with AOHA providers, hospitalists and referring providers; seeking new consultations and responding actively to current consultations.
- Functions as an independent healthcare provider and performs tasks within their scope of practice, as assigned by the collaborating physician, and as prescribed by the Board of Nursing, the Board of Medical Examiners, and other qualifying entities.
- Works collaboratively within the multidisciplinary health team that is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses, including and related to cancer and hematology diseases.
- Demonstrates an advanced level of professionalism in all aspects of the profession, including : clinical knowledge, communication, collaboration, and compassion.
- Works in alignment with the Oncology Nurse Practitioner Competencies published by the Oncology Nursing Society.
- Meets production goals of seeing the required number of patients per day while maintaining all quality standards
Supervisory Responsibilities : None
Required Education and Licensure :
- A completed Masters of Nursing Degree from an accredited program
- A current unencumbered state RN license
- A Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) License through the American Nurse Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
- Medicare certification and a current National Provider Identifier (NPI) number
- Board certification as an Oncology APN or Primary Care in Adult and Family Health Nursing
- A current BCLS / ACLS certification
- AOCNP certification preferred end encouraged, but not required
Required Experience :
- At least one year of experience as a working RN required
- At least one year of experience as a working APP required, separate from and in addition to any RN experience
- At least one year of experience as a RN or APP in an inpatient setting required
- At least six months of practice in an oncology / hematology clinical environment preferred

Physical Requirements :
Stamina required for prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, mixed with prolonged periods of standing and walking;
over a workday that commonly lasts nine hours and sometime stretches to twelve hours.
- Strength required for moving objects and assisting patients. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Good health required for exposure to biological hazards and related aspects of the clinical environment.
