Job purpose
The role of the Outside Sales Representative is to create, innovate and develop new and current business units in his / her area.
One will provide strategic input and advice for decision-making goals and objectives for the immediate business unit under their responsibility.
Primary duties include identifying business opportunities, building and maintaining successful relationships with prospects and existing clients, collaborating with the executive team on business strategy to determine objectives, evaluating current business performance and maximizing business reach and potential.
Beyond market development, this position will have a long-term sales function. This position will assist both the sales and operations departments as needed.
Requirements :
Duties and responsibilities
Sales Representatives are responsible for prospecting new business and sales of existing accounts within their designated territory for the wholesale range of products and services.
They will also drive new market development through strategic product development, marketing and sales, and consultation throughout Alaska for our full-service commercial business.
Key Market Areas are :
AGRI-BUSINESS
- Work with local growers, develop relationships with farm community, and advise on new product innovation.
- Fertilizer : Sell Bulk Customers. Look for modernization of fertilizer formulas and new product development.
- Feed : Sell all types of farm accounts, advise on nutritional value of feed, and work with feed mill on estimating volumes.
- COMMERICAL
- Erosion Control Business : Work with agencies on DOT Specifications and job site application of fertilizer, grass seed, erosion control products.
- Grass Seed & Revegetation : Work with growers, develop contracts with farmers to grow for us, develop long term strategy for seed cleaning, and working with customers on recommendations.
- Athletics : Provide product recommendation and a sales service to customers.
- The selected candidate would represent the company by providing customer service; generating sales by bidding and estimating both public and private work;
gathering data on customer needs and design specifications.
GARDEN
- Target Accounts are Wholesale Growers, Retail Garden Centers, and Cannabis Business.
- Must work with customers to forecast and pre-book seasonal needs.
RETAIL
- Previous merchandising experience preferred.
- Experience with MOD Design and analysis.
- Experience with EDI and POS ordering systems.
- Work across a variety of accounts from Pet Specialty, Independent Retailers, to Box Stores
- Conducts weekly sales calls.
- Presents monthly promotions and new products to customers.
- Writes up orders. Ensures that orders are being delivered accurately and timely. Follows-up on issues pertaining to delivery and orders.
- Produces weekly sales reports, year-end-summaries, and sales forecasts.
- Act as the liaison between customers and the company by ensuring prompt and efficient processing of customer correspondence, requests, and orders.
- Maintain and build a customer base by developing a strong rapport with key clients and establishing new customer opportunities.
- Responsible for building market share and position by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing business deals while strengthening business relationships.
- Achieve the revenue and net profit objectives as agreed upon with manager.
- Utilize administrative, financial, technical, and educational support as required.
- Communicate with management regarding customer feedback, market conditions, competitive activities, and sales trends.
- Work with the Sales Team to identify and investigate planned projects before contract award and establish a plan to win future work.
Work with the Sales Team to compare AGP products against competitors’ products.
- Become a trusted expert by continuing to educate oneself through reading, attending professional seminars and group activities, as well as maintaining a personal network.
- Additional responsibilities as required.
In-State Travel Required : Daily travel and up to 30% overnight trips within Alaska.
Location : Anchorage, Alaska
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or 3 years plus experience or equivalent training or certification required.
- Related experience by market segment (see above).
- Possesses oral and written skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of personalities.
- Strong computer skills and understanding of spreadsheet functions.
- Regular and reliable attendance is expected.
- Outgoing, positive attitude, willing to learn, team player.
Physical Demands
- Requires sitting or standing for long periods and ability to bend or stoop as needed.
- Requires typing and working at a computer for long periods throughout the day.
- Requires ability to use arms and shoulders to lift, reach overhead, mid-level and low-level.
- Requires ability to walk varied distances on hard surfaces, climb stairs, and lift and / or move items that weigh up to 50 lbs.
Working Relationship
Works closely with Sales Team, Purchasing Team, and Executive Team. Frequently consults with management regarding vendors, pricing, and product information.
