The role :

Control Systems Engineer (Facilities / Building Management / Building Automation)

HDR is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to support our national Control Systems practice, providing control system assessment, planning, design, automation programming, testing, commissioning, and maintenance across multiple industries and sectors.

This position focuses on building management systems (BMS) and automated facility support systems, working with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver control system solutions for construction and implementation in sectors like tech, healthcare, research, and life sciences.

Primary responsibilities include :

  • Supporting project deliverables such as specifications, instrumentation selection, sequence development, and control drawings.
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams on design development and construction, including power, remote monitoring, integration, networking, and device placement.
  • Managing workload and schedules.
  • Tracking project budgets and adjusting efforts accordingly.
  • Conducting design meetings, reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and performing field observations.
  • Maintaining client relationships and participating in marketing and design meetings.
  • Using CADD software like AutoCAD and Revit for document development.
  • Reporting project status and quality updates.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Growth opportunities include exposure to multiple sectors, skill development, serving as Engineer of Record, industry participation, and potential advancement to Senior Control Systems Engineer.

Preferred qualifications include experience in data centers, healthcare, network design, cybersecurity, PLC and DDC programming, and knowledge of communication protocols.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, PE license, control system design experience, project management skills, familiarity with automation hardware / software, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a commitment to our culture.
