We are seeking a pet loving VP of Marketing to own and execute strategies to drive inbound demand and ultimately grow and retain our customer base.
The role requires a data-driven marketing leader seeking a high-growth startup environment and the opportunity to build out a marketing organization with autonomy.
The ideal candidate brings a combination of both brand and direct marketing experience and an understanding of how they synergistically lead to results greater than the sum of their parts, particularly in startup environments.

Responsibilities
The VP of Marketing will partner closely with the rest of our leadership team to shape the company’s vision and reach our target audience effectively.
In this role, you will :
Marketing Budget and Strategy : Create and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to achieve company growth and brand objectives.
Own the marketing budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to maximize ROI.
- Brand : Partner with co-founders to articulate and ensure consistency of our brand identity across all channels.
- Growth Marketing : Build and lead growth marketing team focused on designing and executing lead generation campaigns across organic and paid search, social, direct mail, radio, TV, and other media channels.
- Inside Sales : Build and manage an inside sales team that positions Groombuggy as the trusted partner to pet parents for their pet’s health and wellness from beginning to end of life.
Set sales targets, monitor performance, and provide training and support. Manage phone, email and text message campaigns to engage or reengage customers who have previously contacted us.
Propose and own discounting strategy and metrics in new and existing customer cohorts.
- Customer Experience : Oversee customer experience team to build surprise and delight throughout the customer lifecycle, conduct and report back to the team on quant + qual customer research to inform our business and product roadmap, segment customers appropriately for various purposes, own our view on and understanding of the end-to-end customer journey, and drive customer retention strategies including loyalty programs.
- Content and Social Media : Build strategy to test and scale our work into a category-defining social media team and presence.
Build and manage world-class copywriting, email editorial, SMS marketing, and video content production at scale.
- Community Partnerships : Identify and establish community engagements and partnerships with businesses and organizations to expand our reach, service offerings and brand presence in our local communities.
- Marketing Analytics : Ensure clean dashboarding, reporting, understanding of our conversion funnels and spend across all channels (online + offline) and geographies.
Own the definition and reporting of CAC.
Requirements
We’re looking for someone with the following skills and experience :
- 10+ years marketing experience in consumer tech / products / services, with at least 4+ years of experience managing search marketing campaigns, email, SEO, paid social and other analytically-driven lead generation campaigns.
- 4+ years experience with marketing analytics & BI platforms like Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Looker Studio, Tableau.
- 4+ years experience with P&L management for marketing spend at a scaled consumer company, including having had responsibility for marketing planning, board-level budgeting for marketing, and marketing forecasting.
- 6+ years experience with team development & leadership of a meaningfully-sized marketing team. Build and nurture a high performing team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, and providing professional development opportunities.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for pets and a strong understanding of the pet owners’ needs and behaviors.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Self-motivated and self-managed - able to think independently, creatively, and opportunistically.
- Get-it-done mindset - able to handle diverse workload and multiple deadlines well, humble and scrappy!
- Bonus : Experience managing a call center / inside sales team.
We are based in the San Francisco Bay Area. However, this role can be done remotely anywhere. We are prioritizing the following locations where we currently have employees : California, Utah, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Montana and Georgia.
