We are currently searching for a Lead Estimator to join our team and help us move into the next phase of our growth plan.
Reporting to the President, this position will play an important role as part of the leadership team with responsibility for training and mentoring Estimators within the department, the distribution of opportunities that come into the Estimating department to bid, the finalizing of estimates before they are presented to the client and the tracking of proposals and sales for the department.
This includes the process that generates and sends proposals, accepts work from customers, and transfers information to the operations team in ways that allow them to perform at the highest level.
Specific duties include :
- Collaborate with Chief Estimator to determine which projects to bid
- Build relationships with customers (GC’s, owners, engineers, etc.)
- Develop estimates for the Construction Department
- Negotiate projects with customers
- Prepare budgets for awarded projects
o Review contract documents to determine scope gaps and / or double coverage
o Review estimate to expose accuracies and / or inaccuracies
o Make deals with subcontractors and vendors
o Prepare folders with most current documents for the project management team
o Assist Estimator with turnover process to the Project Management team
- Review Contracts.
- Report to leadership on all things Estimating related.
- Maintain connection with the project management team to learn about successes and mistakes
- Attend customer, subcontractor and vendor meet and greet events.
- Look for and create new and improved estimating processes that will improve the accuracy and speed of our estimating team.
- Oversee the process for Turnover Meeting #1 on projects to PM Team.
- Track Construction Estimates by category and report on KPIs for estimating.
- Work with Construction Field Operations Manager and VP of Construction on Manpower projections as a result of pending and new projects.
- Partner with the Leadership Team, assisting in the creation of Company Goals that support our Purpose and Mission.
- Create and implement the strategy that will support Estimating’s contribution to obtaining Company Goals
- Supervise, train, and evaluate Estimating Department staff.
Experience, Capabilities and Skills
- 8-10 years of experience of mechanical or construction estimating experience, including proposal development, and general familiarity with the bid process.
- Ability to analyze specifications, plans, and create material take-offs from drawings, while considering project costs and site requirements.
- Successful candidates must have experience in construction and / or mechanical contracting; HVAC and / or plumbing contracting experience a plus.
- Experience using estimating software.
- Exceptional time management skills and comfort working on multiple projects simultaneously.

This position will be located on-site at our offices in Lanham, Maryland.
We offer a competitive annual base salary between $150,000 and $160,000 (depending on experience), with an exceptional benefits package including 401(k) employer match, paid health insurance, and generous paid time off.
