Legislative Affairs Manager
About the Role
Our dynamic team is looking for a Legislative Affairs Manager who will support the JTI USA Corporate Affairs and Communications function.
The primary function of this role will be to monitor and track legislative and regulatory proposals and support the building of successful advocacy material.
The Legislative Affairs Manager will collaborate closely with our Federal and State Government Affairs Managers to develop impactful advocacy materials, identify key stakeholders, and effectively communicate our positions to those stakeholders.
A successful candidate in this role will also support internal and external corporate communications and stakeholder engagement for the JTI USA business across the United States.
What you will do
Actively track and analyze local, state, and federal legislative developments that could influence the company's operations, ensuring timely awareness of any changes that may affect the business.
Assess regulatory proposals and amendments, providing insight into how they may impact the organization. This includes identifying risks and opportunities for the business.
- Inform necessary internal stakeholders of legislative developments and support the broader business functions by providing timely, thorough, and regular reports on new compliance requirements and any changes to them;
- Work closely with the Government Affairs Managers to monitor and respond, as appropriate, to all legislative and regulatory proposals affecting JTI USA's business operations.
- Assist in coordinating and supporting lobbying efforts, including attending meetings with government officials, drafting communication materials, and organizing events to advocate for the company's positions;
- Work proactively within the organization to monitor, respond to, and meet any new regulatory requirements affecting JTI USA's business operations nationally.
- Maintain work with public affairs tasks related to media monitoring, research, and communication on product regulations;
- In consultation with Government Affairs Managers and Sales colleagues, manage the organization's industry association memberships, ensuring timely payment of dues and maintaining an accurate membership database.
- Assess the value of memberships and recommend renewals or changes based on business strategy. Represent the company at association events, advocating for business and legislative interests, and engage with industry peers, officials, and stakeholders to build relationships and stay informed on trends and regulatory developments;
- Writing responsibilities supporting internal and external communication matters, including but not limited to reports, news digests, legislative and regulatory synopses, and industry news;
- Manage various tasks and projects as they arise and upon manager's request.
Who We Are Looking For
A dynamic, passionate, and result-oriented person, with :
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
- 4+ years' work experience in a public or private sector government affairs, public affairs / research role, communications or a related field.
Familiarity with legislative monitoring, media monitoring, research assignments, and a working knowledge of federal, state, and local government functions and processes required.
- Experience in a public affairs position a plus;
- Fluent English;
- Strong English communication skills, both oral and written.
