Nativa Cannabis is a tribally owned, vertically integrated cannabis enterprise that will offer a vast assortment of recreational cannabis products to legal consumers in Niagara Falls, New York.

Our ultimate goal is to be Western New York’s most reliable and locally produced cannabis business that, in turn, contributes back to the community via active engagement.

Summary of Position

The General Manager (GM) plays a crucial role in implementing Nativa’s business strategies. This involves overseeing various operational aspects and collaborating with Nativa’s Board of Directors to successfully initiate and expand a cannabis retail and cultivation enterprise in a fast-evolving industry.

The GM's responsibilities encompass project management to establish essential operational protocols and efficient workforce systems that facilitate a smooth business launch, organizational growth, and operational harmony.

The GM's primary focus lies in achieving daily operational goals, emphasizing efficient cultivation practices, and ensuring top-notch product quality control.

Close collaboration with the third-party business consulting team leading this project on behalf of Nativa is an integral part of the GM's role.

Essential Functions

  • Actively engage in necessary project planning, encompassing various facets such as marketing strategy, budgeting, oversight of construction, selection and procurement of equipment, installation of systems, and development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), among other tasks essential for operational readiness.
  • Collaborate closely with Nativa's Board of Directors and receive guidance from the business consulting team to devise strategies for establishing a successful cannabis operation.
  • Implement a range of operational, marketing, and management strategies while adhering to budgetary constraints.
  • Evaluate critical project needs, formulate strategic plans to address these needs, and execute these plans effectively.
  • Oversee the installation of equipment and the initial operation of cannabis cultivation activities, covering tasks such as setup, genetic sourcing, propagation, production scheduling, plant care, harvesting, drying, and curing of initial crops.
  • Assist in the implementation and enforcement of SOPs across all facets of the business, including cultivation, processing, packaging, product transportation, retail, and security.
  • Be prepared for local and national travel as required, representing Nativa at vendor appointments, business conferences and meetings, and potentially engaging in public speaking engagements.
  • Ensure the efficient execution of the enterprise's overall development, encompassing both the cannabis retail and cultivation establishments.

Management

  • Inspire and guide a high-performance management team, emphasizing the importance of mentoring as a fundamental aspect of career development in management.
  • Collaborate with the management team to formulate annual operating plans that align with Nativa's strategic vision and are in line with the available budget.
  • Develop a strategic plan by conducting thorough assessments of technological and financial opportunities, and ultimately present findings to make recommendations for strategic decisions.
  • Achieve subsidiary objectives by setting clear plans, defining budgets, establishing measurements for results, allocating necessary resources, regularly reviewing progress, and adjusting as needed to stay on track.
  • Cultivate an environment within Nativa that encourages success, flexibility, and accountability, driving the team towards achieving their goals.

Finance

  • Oversee operations management and ensure Nativa is compliant with all regulatory and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Develop annual budgets that support operational goals, along with the Board of Directors.
  • In collaboration with the accounting team, prudently manage operating resources within budget guidelines and regulatory frameworks to maximize productivity.

Operations

Spearhead the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable management practices that align with the organization's overarching goals.

This includes researching best practices in sustainability, as well as evaluating the efforts of other local and national businesses and institutions in this regard.

  • Take charge of steering Nativa towards the achievement and surpassing of sales, profitability, and overall business objectives.
  • Implement a system for measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of both internal and external processes. Generate timely, accurate, and comprehensive reports on the conditions of operations.
  • Assume full responsibility for overseeing and managing cultivation and production operations, ensuring that Nativa consistently delivers the highest quality products to its customers.
  • Provide direct supervision for cultivation, production, and retail operations, either through direct management or by collaborating with other department managers.
  • Efficiently manage all aspects of production operations, including crop cultivation, processing, commercial kitchen products, packaging, and product distribution.

Qualifications

Position Requirements

  • Show a minimum of five (5) years of staff management experience, preferably in a fast-paced and intensive industry.
  • Demonstrate a minimum of four (4) years of corporate management experience, with a strong preference for experience in a highly regulated environment.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in professional cannabis cultivation.
  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree in a business-related field from an accredited institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the United States Department of Education.
  • Exhibit proficiency in using MS Office Applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with retail POS systems and / or inventory management systems is a plus.
  • Possess excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with groups and respond to questions.
  • Be flexible with occasional evening and weekend work requirements.
  • Uphold the highest level of integrity and interpersonal skills, especially in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Exhibit superior organizational skills, with proficiency in project management, time management, and multitasking.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, business acumen, influence, and negotiation skills.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle.

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Able to lift and carry weights of up to 50 lbs. over a distance of 100 feet.
  • This position may require occasional and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate objects.
