The Department of Sociology at Simmons University seeks an adjunct instructor to teach Social Inequalities in the Spring 2022 semester.
The Spring 2022 semester is a condensed 15-week term - course dates are January 18 May 9, 2022 .Spring courses will be held in person.
Each class session will be held for an 80 minutes live session on Tuesdays / Thursdays from 11 : 00 AM 12 : 20 PM EST. The instructor is expected to be available to meet with students one-on-one through video / zoom calls, in lieu of office hours, as needed.
Course Title and Description
SOCI 249 : Social Inequalities
The United States is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, yet we live in a society riddled with inequality. Too often this inequality is hidden from many Americans.
The purpose of this course is to understand where inequality exists and how it is able to sustain itself. We will read articles and books on how racism, sexism, classism and homophobia are prevalent in societys economic, social and political structures.
We will also examine how these create a society where some are guaranteed privileges and opportunities while others are denied it.
Qualifications :
- Candidates should have an MA or Ph.D., preferably in Sociology.
- Have prior undergraduate-level teaching experience.
- Strong communication skills, ability to provide mentorship and guidance remotely by email, phone and or video call, and willingness to offer extensive feedback on student work.
