As an Electrical Technician at Boston Dynamics, you will be a part of a small, fast-moving robotics team, helping with the construction, operation, testing, and troubleshooting of compact electrical systems in advanced robotics on our Atlas team.
Every day you will do hands-on work on prototype electrical system designs, and frequently contribute hands-on in lab building and debugging electrical systems, ranging from small test systems to fully integrated prototype robots.
Robotics includes a broad range of technical subjects within electrical engineering. To thrive in this role, you must be able to work quickly and adapt to constantly evolving technical considerations, while keeping track of several threads at the same time.
Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do.
Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications and warehouse logistics.
Day to da y activities :
Build cable harness assemblies from drawings.
Support electrical engineers in rework of complex prototype printed circuit boards.
Under close supervision, perform routine technical functions to support development engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, fabrication, modification, and assembly of electronics and electro-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, prototype models or specialized test equipment.
Perform routine operational tests and fault isolation on development systems and equipment to ensure conformance with design specifications.
Conduct defined engineering tests and collect data as assigned.
Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform routine testing, checkout, troubleshooting, prototype building, environmental testing, and simple developmental engineering tasks.
Diagnose and isolate malfunctions down to component level.
Utilize routine development or diagnostic equipment including oscilloscopes, VOMs, DVMs, signal generators and similar test apparatuses.
Operate subsystem test stations for validation testing.
Troubleshoot and identify root causes of electrical system failures in sub-assemblies and complete robots.
Required Skills :
Experience with PCB rework and cable assembly, especially technically difficult rework.
Demonstrated experience interpreting schematic capture and PCB layout.
Hands-on experience building and debugging electro-mechanical test setups.
Experience with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, programmable loads, thermal probes.
Be able to multitask and change priorities quickly, as needed.
Be able to clearly communicate test results and data.
Nice to have :
Experience with communication interfaces, e.g. CAN, Ethernet, SPI, and I2C.
Experience with test automation.
Experience with Altium, NI LabVIEW, python, and command-line operations in a UNIX-like OS.
Familiarity with position encoder and force sensor technology.
Experience working with robots and / or robotic systems.
Boston Dynamics will never ask you to divulge your personal financial or account information as part of its recruiting process.
