RESPONSIBILITIES :
Labor and Delivery RNs (L&D RNs) are responsible for monitoring patients throughout labor and serves as the primary point of contact for family members.
L&D RNs monitor baby’s heart rate and provide immediate care to the newborn. L&D RN job responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- L&D RNs perform knowledge of phlebotomy, basic IV and central lines
- Assess and record maternal vital signs throughout labor and post-partum stages
- Administer pain medication and other medicines as ordered
- Educate and support new mothers and families on infant care
