The post cardiothoracic surgical unit is a specialtyunit consisting of patients receiving cardiac surgery, thoracicsurgery, cardiac catheterization, structural heart interventionalprocedures, electrophysiology procedures, and patients that requirea higher level of telemetry monitoring.

Advanced skillspreferred but not required : Cardiac rhythm interpretation andmanagement, familiarity with vasoactive & antiarrhythmicmedications, and management of chesttubes.

JobDescription :

• Implements physician orders,administers medications, starts IVs, performs treatments,procedures and special tests, and document treatment as required bycompany policy and local / state / federal rules andregulations.
• Orders, interprets, and evaluatesdiagnostic tests to identify and assess patients'conditions.
• Assesses and evaluates patient needsfor, and responses to, care rendered.
• Appliessound nursing judgment in patient care managementdecisions.
• Provides primary and emergency carefor occupational and non-occupational injuries andillnesses.
• Administers over-the-counter andprescription medications asordered.
• Collaborates with the nursing team tocreate a Plan of Care for all patients.
• Directsand guides ancillary personnel and maintain standards ofprofessionalnursing.

Qualifications :

• Graduateof a professional academic nursing program in which a Diploma,Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree isconferred
• Must hold current NYS Registered Nurselicense
• Obtains and maintains certification inBasic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS)
• Minimum of 1-3 years of previous clinicalRN experience in Med-Surg or ProgressiveCare
• Excellent communication, prioritization,organizational and time-managementskills
• Possesses knowledge of quality concepts,principles, and problem-solving tools and techniques anddemonstrates ability to apply in support of departmental andpatient care qualityimprovement.
