Job Description

Qualifications :

Boeing Commercial Airplanes has exciting opportunities for Wing Skin Preparation Mechanic B to join our teams in Auburn, WA and Puyallup, WA.

As a Wing Skill Preparation Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in preparing and handling various wing components, including wing skins, spars, webs, chords, splice-plates, and stiffeners.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to fabricate sub-assemblies using these wing components, which will later be integrated into larger wing assemblies.

Employment in this position also requires walking, bending and twisting at the waist, carrying less than 10 pounds, flexion / extension, handling, lifting 10-35 pounds, pushing / pulling 10-35 pounds, rotation of head / neck, standing, use of low impact vibratory tools, contact with metals, solvents, exposure to noise, atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face / eye, hand / arm, ears and feet.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform work assigned by lead or supervisor based on priority requirements.
  • Operate overhead crane to safely move parts (e.g., wing skins, stringers) using slings, clamps, and other lifting and securing devices.
  • Obtain appropriate engineering drawings for assigned job using online computer systems (e.g., Bold / Web).
  • Inspect parts (e.g., stringers) for unpainted areas and ensure touch-up with primer, curing in the oven as required per Boeing Aerospace Company Process Specifications (BAC specifications).
  • Apply ink part mark (e.g., part number, date, and shop) to meet BAC specifications. Verify work order (W / O) matches steel stamp before removing the tab.
  • Ink part mark production order number on stringer per W / O, drawing, and BAC specifications.
  • Remove wing skin lifting tabs using tools such as a hand power sander.
  • Prepare detabbed area for shot peening per BAC specification.
  • Perform shot peening on detabbed surfaces as required by W / O and BAC specifications.
  • Install bushings and fittings into housing using a pneumatic puller. Apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate installation of bushings and freeze plugs as required per BAC specifications.
  • Roller swage bushings and fittings into housing per BAC specifications.
  • Locate, drill, ream, and size holes in parts (e.g., channel vent, splice plate, clips) in the correct sequence and to the correct size per drawing, W / O, or tooling instructions using a drill motor (e.

g., Winslow, 90-Power Vane).

  • Disassemble parts and deburr holes using chip chasers, deburring tools, and files to prepare for the installation of fasteners.
  • Clean surfaces using solvents prior to sealing or assembly.
  • Apply seal and / or topcoat, including fillet seal, to parts as required by BAC specifications.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Install fasteners per drawing using correct tools (e.g., rivet gun and bucking bar, lock bolt puller, power screwdriver, C-squeeze, ratchet wrench, nut runner).
  • Perform a thorough check of completed work or in-process checks to ensure assembly is complete, per drawing, and free from defects (e.

g., gapped heads, high rivets, tool marks, incorrect length fasteners). Ensure the work area is clean before putting up for inspection.

  • Present completed job or in-process checks to the inspector at appropriate steps in the sequence.
  • Perform minor rework as required (e.g., pick-ups).
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., paint, sealants, solvents) in an approved manner.
  • Use precision measuring instruments necessary to accomplish work assignments.
  • Maintain personal and tool certifications as required.
  • Perform touch-up shot peening.
  • Apply maskants as necessary.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill / Experience)

  • 1+ years of experience using hand tools and / or hand-held power tools
  • 1+ years of experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Fluent in both verbal and written English or Currently able to speak, read and write fluent English.
  • Able to lift, push and pull up to 35 pounds frequently within an 8 hour shift

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in reading and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • 1+ years of experience with using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers and dial indicators, etc.
  • Shot peen experience

Typical Education & Experience

High school graduate or GED preferred.
