Position Summary
To provide clinical oversight, supervision, and optimization of patient care, patient flow and staffing, and to assist in care provided for patients in all areas of hospital.
Duties & Responsibilities
Meets qualifications of, and fulfills responsibilities of, a Registered Nurse per the position descriptions, Registered Nurse RN Acute Care Client (please refer to that position descriptions)
Serves as administrative resource during off-hours and is the nursing management designee, with delegated authority over all caregivers on hospital patient care units, in collaboration with appropriate manager, DNS or CNO if indicated.
Maintains "big picture" view of patient care across the hospital; Manages and is the decision maker related to staffing for current shift and upcoming shifts, based on patient census, patient acuity, and admission, discharge, and transfer activities;
Updates 3 day staffing plan accordingly
Provides "in-the-moment" leadership, coaching, and performance management to caregivers, to support optimal patient care and outcomes.
Rounds frequently in all patient care units to provide support and serve as resource as needed, particularly with surge in patient acuity or volumes;
assures caregivers are getting meal and rest breaks appropriately and timely.
Supports or provides patient care as needed, based on prioritization of needs.
Serves as a clinical resource to provide support with changes in patient condition (including use of MEWS protocol)
Competent to monitor procedural sedation and to provide support in PACU.
Supports a healing environment by consistently modeling Client values and behavioral expectations and maintaining a quiet, clean, uncluttered environment;
provides coaching to other caregivers to do the same.
Qualifications
Graduate from accredited school of nursing.
Current registration and license to practice in the State of Washington
BSN highly preferred
BLS, ACLS, NRP, TNCC, PALS certifications current or obtain as soon as able (within first 6 months)
Minimum 3 years of experience as a hospital acute care and / or ED RN required; previous house supervisor experience preferred.
Excellent critical thinking, organizational, interpersonal relationship, and verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to provide leadership to staff, prioritize and think clearly and quickly.
