Responsibilities
- Strategic Advocacy : Develop and implement the organization’s government affairs strategy to influence public policy and regulatory outcomes in alignment with the association’s goals and objectives.
- Identify and prioritize key legislative and regulatory issues affecting the industry / profession and create strategies to address them.
- Legislative and Regulatory Engagement : Build and maintain strong relationships with legislators, government officials, and regulatory agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments, providing timely updates and recommendations to the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
- Represent the association in meetings, hearings, and other forums related to policy and regulatory matters.
- Policy Development : Lead the development of policy positions, advocacy materials, and strategic communications to support the organization’s objectives.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to formulate and articulate policy positions and proposals.
- Team Leadership : Manage and mentor a team of government affairs professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure effective execution of advocacy strategies.
- Oversee the development and implementation of team goals and performance metrics.
- Coalition Building : Develop and maintain strategic partnerships and coalitions with other organizations, trade associations, and advocacy groups to advance shared policy goals.
- Coordinate joint advocacy efforts and leverage collective resources to enhance the organization’s impact.
- Strategic Communication : Develop and execute communication strategies to convey the organization’s policy positions and advocacy efforts to members, media, and the public.
- Prepare briefing materials, testimony, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitoring and Reporting : Track and report on the progress of legislative and regulatory initiatives, assessing their impact on the organization and its members.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Executive Team and Board of Directors on advocacy activities and outcomes.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field; Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of 8-12 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or legislative advocacy, with a strong track record of success in a non-profit or trade association environment.
- In-depth knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process, with experience working with government officials and agencies.
- Proven ability to develop and execute effective advocacy strategies and influence public policy.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience overseeing and mentoring staff.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and address complex policy issues.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
