National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry.

Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we’ll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US.

Following Orientation, you’ll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

About the Position

As an Associate Engineer, you will support the Distribution Asset Management team in helping to develop recommendations for required modifications and additions to sub-transmission and distribution facilities to enhance the resiliency of the system to adverse weather events and to modernize the grid in a fashion to meet forecasted capacity requirements and expanding customer service quality expectations in an economic manner that optimizes the use of existing systems and minimizes environmental concerns.

This is a hybrid role with 1 day a week in the office.

What You’ll Do

As an Associate Engineer, you will be a part of team integral to the development of the 5 year work plan and 15 year Strategic Asset Management Plan.

You will :

  • Assess the performance of the sub-Transmission and Distribution system performance regarding capacity and reliability and develop modernization plans as necessary.
  • Conduct 15 year area studies and develop long term integrated plans for infrastructure development to meet National Grid’s strategic objectives.
  • Develop conceptual project plans that if implemented economically address identified T&D system needs.
  • Effectively form project teams of internal and external stakeholders for the development of project plans.
  • Ensure asset data (i.e., load readings and equipment settings) is captured correctly in the appropriate asset registers.
  • Analyze policies, strategies and programs that are in progress or completed to determine their effectiveness versus stated goals.
  • Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external departments for the application, operation, and maintenance of the electric transmission and distribution system.

What You'll Need

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or Computer Engineering is preferred from an accredited institution

Graduated between May 2024 and June 2025

Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 2, 2025 or July 7, 2025

Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy
