Position Summary

The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access & Advocacy (DEIA & A) is a full-time employee of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA) and reports to the Chief Mission Delivery Officer, is a collaborative partner with the Membership and Girl & Volunteer Experience (program) teams, and the People & Culture team.

This role oversees the strategy to operationalize diversity, equity, inclusion throughout the organization for Girl Scouts, volunteers, staff, and board members.

This position also helps to create partnerships with Council business leaders and civic leaders and agencies, advocating on behalf of the girl experience.

The DEIA & A Director is also responsible for program strategy; data collection and analysis; program development and implementation;

the stewardship, growth, and strengthened community relationships; and helps develop public policy and programs that support the mission of the organization.

This role forms and drives strategies across all functions and embeds diversity, equity and inclusion as a business and culture imperative.

The role has primary leadership for the causes of girl empowerment, gender equity, and social justice and stewarding a culture of belonging in the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Create, lead, integrate and execute the DEIA beliefs and values to advance the mission and goals of GSGLA.

Drive review of current structures, practices, toolkits, and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder GSGLA’s DEIA goals.

Establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and benchmark milestones to measure effectiveness of the DEIA strategy and its outputs.

Integrate key concepts of equity, allyship, inclusion, and diversity into existing programs and support the development of new, innovative programs that incorporate these values.

Serve as a strong voice and representative for inclusion and diversity across multiple stakeholders, constituents, and partners.

Design and facilitate DEIA trainings for board, staff, and members and steward the development of cultural competency and responsiveness enterprise wide.

Support change management for processes (ex. volunteer training) and cultural norms (ex. language and communication).

Ensure that DEIA issues are accounted for in budgeting, strategic planning, and other forward-thinking initiatives.

Co-create inclusion and equity-focused internal processes, tools, and resources with the People & Culture team.

Partner with Fund Development to identify grant proposals for DEIA funding strategies.

Partner with Marketing & Communications to communicate DEIA initiatives and messaging.

Lead community and civic engagement efforts of the council and champion and scale Girl Scout initiatives program focused internally as well as social impact focused externally.

Cultivate long-term, collaborative, influential, collegial, and strategic relationships with key stakeholder organizations, commissions, and individuals, including government and elected officials, community leaders, school district administrators, and aligned organizations and agencies; connect council leadership.

Speak in favor of, recommend, advocate for programs, funding, and proper legislations (within IRS non-lobbying guidelines) for causes and issues especially important to girl members and promotes the organization.

Create opportunities to partner with organizations from the business, non-profit, and public sectors to maximize broad-based support for the Council’s operations.

Interpret and promote Girl Scouting in the greater Los Angeles community, to enhance the understanding and appreciation of its programs.

Serve as a GSUSA thought partner.

Recommended Education, Training and Experience

Experience in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in a complex organization

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including communicating complex information with clarity to diverse audiences

Experience in facilitation, advocacy, and / or community engagement

Experience working within a federated environment and demonstrated examples of successfully leading enterprise-wide business initiatives

Commitment to social justice and the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Experience in synthesizing input from stakeholders, regional organizations, and industry experts and possess the ability to influence leaders from a variety of subject areas and seniority levels

Bachelor’s degree in communications, social sciences, people management, DEI, nonprofit management, education, or similar preferred, Master’s a plus

Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Sharepoint

Non-profit experience; experience in a Girl Scouts organization is a plus

GSGLA Employee Requirements

Comply with state-mandated reporter training

Attend GSGLA signature events and / or other activities as assigned
