Job Description

Apex Clean Energy is seeking an experienced professional to join our Project Management Team as Environmental Coordinator to support the construction and project management teams successfully construct Apex’s utility-scale renewable energy projects throughout the United States.

Reporting to the Director of Project Management, you will help to provide leadership and management for the permitting, engineering, and environmental compliance in the construction of Apex projects.

This includes coordinating with Apex’s Environmental Subject Matter Experts, Project Management Engineers and Internal Counsel.

You will be responsible for supporting the execution of contracted engineering, procurement, and construction scope in the areas of environmental planning, contractual compliance, and client satisfaction.

You will work across multiple technologies including wind, solar, and storage and have direct oversight of all environmental technical issues on the projects from late-stage development through commercial operation.

Our ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in the environmental permitting and construction management of multifaceted renewable energy projects and a proven ability to manage a team of multi-discipline professionals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage the development, planning, and execution of operational utility-scale renewable energy projects from mid-stage development through engineering, procurement, and construction according to design requirements and within established timeframe and budget
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Site Construction Manager and site team for assigned projects
  • Manage constructability reviews, risk analysis, and reporting management
  • Manages projects using industry standard project management tools
  • Manage contract requirements, client relations, and project deliverables
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics of the project in accordance with company systems
  • Engage with and foster relationships with the various internal and external project stakeholders as Apex’s primary contact for the project duration
  • Oversee on site vendors and engineers to ensure a successful project
  • Lead recurring environmental assessment meetings to effectively communicate project progress and expectations to all stakeholders in a timely and clear manner
  • Support periodic project updates and reporting to senior managers through preparation of project status reports
  • Assisting the management of and providing support to project team leads to ensure zero violations in the delivery of projects
  • Assisting with the management of all environmental administrative, technical, and reporting issues on the projects from late-stage development through commercial operation.
  • Implementing standardized scopes of work and RFP processes for the EPC contractor selection process
  • Vendor / Contractor management including qualification and relationship building and maintenance
  • Providing decisive resolution of project constraints that result in reduced risks and client satisfaction
  • Supporting project leads to manage changes and risk on scope, cost, schedule, quality, and safety based on available resources and client requirements
  • Clearly assigning responsibilities, setting objectives and measuring progress against expected results. Establishes a process to monitor progress against the goal through engagement and feedback

Qualifications

To succeed as a Environmental Project Coordinator at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria :

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in construction science, engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of environmental permitting, engineering or construction management. Utility-scale renewable energy projects experience preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of environmental construction standards and permitting regulations.
  • Strong customer service orientation, both internal and external
  • Ability to develop performance metrics and measure performance against benchmarks
  • Strong leadership capability that encourages others through confidence, integrity, intellect, and perseverance that inspires trust and confidence in team members and external parties
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; equally adept at one-on-one and group communications; a team and business builder who understands and creates an attractive company culture, strong partnerships, credibility, and authenticity at all levels of the company
  • Strong passion for renewable energy

  • Up to 50% travel required
  • Must be willing to work from our headquarters in Charlottesville, VA
