Position Details Title Post Doctoral Fellow in Infectious Disease Modeling and Data Analysis Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU Bloomington Epidemiology and Biostatistics Location Bloomington Position Summary The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics within the School of Public Health at Indiana University Bloomington are inviting applications for two postdoctoral fellow positions in Infectious Disease Modeling and Data Analysis .

Working under the direct supervision and mentorship of Dr. Marco Ajelli and Dr. Maria Litvinova , the postdoctoral fellows will develop mathematical models and analyze epidemiological and socio-economic data to advance the knowledge in the field of infectious disease epidemiology .

The postdoctoral fellows will be hired for a one-year position with opportunity for renewal on a yearly basis assuming satisfactory performance.

The positions include benefits and compensation congruent with NIH stipend levels. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, with full consideration for those appling by February 25, 2024, and evaluated via an expedited decision process.

The appointment start date is negotiable on a case-by-case basis and could begin as early as April 1, 2024.

Basic Qualifications Qualifications : Candidates must have received a doctoral degree in a quantitative field from an accredited educational institution by the start of appointment.

Applicants are expected to have basic knowledge of infectious disease epidemiology. For the position to be hosted at Dr.

Ajelli’s lab, preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of C (or C++) and R (or Python), and a strong background in Mathematics or Physics is particularly welcome.

For the position to be hosted at Dr. Litvinova’s lab, preference will be given to candidates possessing proficiency in R and demonstrating a robust foundation in Statistics, Biostatistics, Econometrics or Data Analytics.

Additional Qualifications Responsibilities : The postdoctoral fellows are expected to develop mathematical and / or statistical models, analyze data, and contribute to the dissemination of project findings.

The work will primarily focus on respiratory infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19, influenza, RSV), but other human infectious diseases may be investigated as well.

The work conducted by the postodoctoral fellows will have practical implications by providing direct support to national and international public health decision makers through infectious disease forecasts, projections, and scenario analyses.

One of the two postdoctoral fellows is expected to primarily focus on mathematical modeling and will be hosted in Dr. Ajelli’s lab.

The other postdoctoral fellow is expected to primarily focus on statistical modeling and data analysis and will be hosted in Dr.

Litvinova’s lab. Both postdoctoral fellows are expected to lead projects and to work collaboratively with the other members of the labs of Drs.
