At Houston Methodist the Equipment ProcessingTechnician is an entry level position and is responsible forinspection sorting decontamination and sterilization of personalprotective equipment medical equipment medications and other cleanroom areas.

The Equipment Processing Technicain will coordinatepickup and delivery of various equipment requiring disinfectionwith hospital unit representatives providing safe timely andreliable service.

The position maintains consistent and continuousworkflow between the work area and customer departments providingexcellent customer service.

PEOPLEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Communicates withstaff from the interdisciplinary health care team concerningpatient safety to improve outcomes and the safe transition of carethrough effective assignment and shift handoffs using a structuredformat.
  • Demonstratesteamwork by responding positively and respectfully to requests forassistance. Collaborates with department representatives to fosterhealthy relationships in the work environment.

Makes contributionsto the work effort as a whole and uses problem resolutioneffectively.

Identifiesand immediately reports failures of equipment for disinfectionsterilization and safety monitoring of the workenvironment.

SERVICEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performssorting inspection and decontamination / sterilization of personalprotective equipment (PPE) medications medical and pharmaceuticalequipment and other physical spaces by safely following prescribedmanufacturer instructions and institutional policies andprocedures.
  • Providestimely turn around for equipment requiringdecontamination / sterilization including rounding on units tocollect and return equipment needingdecontamination / sterilization.
  • Handlessterilants and other cleaning supplies in accordance withprescribed manufacturer instructions and institutional policies andprocedures.
  • Organizesworkload utilizing available work time by assisting others andperforming additional task as needed. Delivers consistent andreliable productivity between the assigned work space and the unitswe service.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Utilizesappropriate personal protective equipment required todisinfect / sterilize potentially infectious medical equipment forreuse in accordance with manufacturer instructions andinstitutional policies andprocedures.
  • Utilizes alldepartment equipment chemicals and supplies according tomanufacturers instructions for use and department policies andprotocols.
  • Utilizes allprovided safety equipment to monitor workspace fordisinfectant / sterilant levels to ensure safety followingmanufacturer instructions and institutional policies andprocedures.
  • Ensuresthrough visual product inspection and quality control indicatorsthat all disinfected / sterilized equipment passes institutionalstandards for effectivesterilization.

FINANCEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Selfmotivated toindependently manage time effectively and prioritize daily taskscleaning the workstation at the end of each shift and minimizingincidental overtime.

Utilizes time between heavy workloadsefficiently and helps other teammembers.

Uses departmentresources efficiently to ensure thorough documentation of completedwork recording productivity and sterility monitoring metricsfollowing established institutionalstandards.

Identifies ownlearning needs consults with healthcare team experts and seekscontinuing education opportunities to meet those needs.
