Job Description :
The technical project manager will be responsible for managing the technical aspects of projects to ensure that proposed plans adhere to the 5-On’s On Scope, On Time, On Budget, On Quality, and On Benefit.
This role will plan projects in detail, set schedules and corresponding milestones, tasks, and work breakdown segments for all project stakeholders (internal and external) for each phase of the project.
The technical project manager will be one of the primary subject matter experts in the information technology team regarding various technology platforms, standards, design patterns, and infrastructure models to plan, deliver and implement, and enhance our various technical program needs.
This role will leverage their expertise to reduce risk, problem solve, bring together various technical and functional stakeholders to problem solve and drive consensus.
Key focus will be on managing all aspects of technical RAID items (Risks, Actions, Issues, and Decisions needed).
The technical project manager will be part of a project management office team of other project managers and portfolio managers and balance time across the overall program portfolio of projects to add value and drive technical change management.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Develop comprehensive project plans that align stakeholder requirements, design specifications, test case specifications and coordinate various technical and functional resources during all project phases, from ideation and planning through implementation and value generation.
- Manage projects following project management standards, with a strong focus on PMBOK and PMI / PMP frameworks throughout the entire project lifecycle to ensure success as defined by adherence to the 5 On’s (Scope, Timeline, Budget, Benefit, Quality).
- Monitor the health and welfare of the project with key focus on risk management, technical problem solving, issue identification and mitigation.
Drive key decisions across stakeholders including external partners, and provide ongoing detailed reporting to leadership and project team members.
- Analyze cost and benefit of a project business case, and design project plan(s) with focus on benefits realization and risk reduction.
- Work in close partnership with cross-sectional technology teams, both internally and external to apply technology to problem solve.
Using modern development methods, Agile delivery models (specifically Scaled Agile Framework), hybrid / cloud infrastructure technology stacks, enterprise class technology with heavy focus on Oracle and Microsoft.
- Proactively focus on areas of technical project needs across the enterprise by staying informed on relevant trends, technical models and frameworks, software and middleware solutions, industry news, and leading practices.
- Oversee contingent resources on various project teams and manage the corresponding vendor relationships to source the best resources into ongoing programs as the need arises.
- Gather information and lead periodic retrospectives, velocity management assessments, success reflections, and related sessions while applying facilitation on what is working well to sustain, where improvement can be made and how, and what practices to stop that are not yielding value with focus on continuous improvement and continuous deployment.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related degree or experience.
- Project Manager Professional certification from the Project Management Institute.
- At least 5 years of progress experience in project management in a product software delivery environment and / or working with enterprise-class software (focus on Oracle and Microsoft).
- Experience working in a high performing team, with ongoing collaboration, and promoting a teamwork mentality, and the ability to work across roles and help take on the work of others in the team if needed.
- Skilled in Agile (Scrum, Kanban, Extreme), Waterfall, Iterative, and other PDLC approaches.
- Preferably certified as a scrum master (CSM) and can lead high performing scrum teams.
- Strong experience in partnering and working with C-level executives, with focus on effective communication and negotiating skills, building consensus on planning and modeling, and demonstrating value resulting from work initiatives.
Must be able to communicate complex technical risks and topics in simple to understand, business-friendly language.
- Understanding of project management practices, methods, and strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly grasp multilayered and complex technologies and how to effectively apply these to solve problems.
- Strong mentoring, coaching, and development of technical high potential resources within project teams and related venues.
- Strong sense of personal accountability with respect to decision making, escalation of risks and issues, and solutions to mitigate challenges as they arise, with focus on pros and cons.
- Ability to predict challenges and seek to proactively step in front of obstacles.
- Expertise in test planning and execution focused on cloud-based application landscapes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
