Electrical Design Engineer
IFP Automation is seeking a lead electrical designer with experience designing and selecting components in industrial control panels while maintaining up-to-date diagrams.
The right candidate may also have experience in PLC and HMI programming.
The successful candidate will be responsible for selecting equipment for industrial control systems. It is crucial that they are well-versed in industrial controls, sensors, motion, controls software (AB RSLogix or similar), and CAD software.

The team seeks an electrical engineer who is self-driven, creative, and comfortable working in small teams and can prioritize multiple projects of varying scales and complexities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Compensation :
$65,000 - $95,000 yearly
Responsibilities :
- Design, Development, and AutoCAD Electrical CAD Creation of Industrial Electrical Control Panels.
- Perform sizing and selection for electrical equipment.
- Design control panels.
- Create, maintain, and revise electrical drawings.
- Manage Bills of Material for both existing and new projects.
- Correspond with the electrical fabrication shop.
- Perform equipment testing in-house or at remote locations.
- General support of customer questions on hardware support on products like drives, cables, sensors, controllers, displays, motors, and other electrical and automation components.
- Coordinate project activities with other engineers, outside vendors / contractors, and customers.
- Produce clear and timely documentation.
- Ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps.
- Ensuring compliance with specifications, applicable codes, and customer requirements.
- Preparing specifications for purchasing electrical equipment and materials.
- Includes occasional phone and remote technical assistance / troubleshooting for installed systems.
- Includes limited travel to Indiana installations. Typically, it does not require any overnights.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of best industry practices and propose improvements to future or existing installations.
- Focus on continued improvement of designs and production of panels.
- Development and support of software projects, including PLC Code, HMI development, industrial motion control, sensors, cabling, etc.
- Training is available in a number of the products we work with and can be offered to the right candidate, depending upon the candidate’s background.
- The position can be in the Indianapolis or Fort Wayne office(s).
Qualifications : General :
General :
An associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is preferred. Other relevant technical degrees with adequate experience will be considered.
A degree in electronics, instrumentation, or controls is desirable.
- Engaged in electronics, instrumentation, or controls programming in a professional setting.
- Experience in using AUTOCAD Electrical software for industrial electrical control panel design.
Required qualifications :
- 3+ years of design experience with industrial control panels and supporting production of designs.
- 3+ years of experience with CAD software (AutoCAD / or AutoCAD Electric preferred).
- Experience in selecting and wiring VFDs, soft starters, SCRs, relays, networking equipment, etc.
- Experience working with and wiring industrial sensors, instrumentation, pressure transmitters, thermocouples, and other transmitters and transducers.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience in industrial controls (PLC, HMI, Servo Drives, VFD, etc.) is a big plus.
- PLC programming or wiring experience is a big plus.
- Knowledge of hazardous location wiring methodologies following domestic and international codes and standards.
- Understanding of low and medium voltage wiring and power distribution methods.
- Experience with industrial communications protocols.
- Familiarity with UL 508a Certification and Requirements of Design / Build.
