Job Title : Mammography Technician

- Schedule : Monday-Friday, 8 : 30 AM - 4 : 30 PM; Shift : 9 : 30 AM - 5 : 30 PM
- Schedule : Monday-Friday, 10 : 00 AM - 6 : 00 PM; shift times may vary according to departmental needs.
Job Summary : The Mammography Technician will perform high-quality mammographic procedures on both inpatients and outpatients following department protocols.
This role includes patient screening, precise radiologic imaging, and efficient data management to support accurate radiologist interpretation.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Perform mammographic exams with a focus on precise positioning and technical accuracy.
- Review each prescription, patient history, and questionnaire before the exam.
- Maintain universal precautions and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination.
- Verify patient identity using National Patient Safety Goals protocols.
- Process images through the PACS system, ensuring timely completion and verification of cases.
- Manage worklists, monitor, and resolve the daily Exceptions List.
- Accurately use Breast Reporting System (PenRad), EMR, and PACS for loading images, creating orders, and scanning reports for review.
- Assess each image for proper positioning, markers, date stickers, and identifiers.
- Ensure repeat imaging if factors compromise diagnostic quality.
- Provide patient-centered care, addressing physical, psychological, and sociological needs with respect and clarity.
- Communicate effectively using Cyracom for language assistance when needed and Vocera for internal communication.
- Maintain cleanliness and adequate supply levels in assigned areas.
- Collaborate with ultrasound teams to ensure efficient patient flow across both modalities.
- Conduct bone density scans and assist with interventional cases as needed, including needle localizations and stereotactic biopsies.
- Follow the ALARA principle for radiation safety.
- Perform quality assurance as per MQSA guidelines, reporting any equipment issues promptly.
- Support new employees through orientation and preceptor duties if required.
- Exhibit reliability in attendance, communicating any schedule changes in advance and adhering to shift start times.
Skills and Qualifications :
- Required :
- At least 2 years of experience in screening and diagnostic mammography.
- Proficiency in DEXA scans and biopsy procedures is beneficial.
Education :
Required : High School Diploma or equivalent, with completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology or Mammography program.
Certifications and Licensure :
- ARRT (R) and (M) certification.
- Active state mammography license.
- BLS certification.
- Compliance with ECE requirements to maintain Mammography certification, including documentation of 200 mammograms within a 36-month period per MQSA standards.
