Position Overview : The Human Resource Generalist provides operational and technical support for human resources and payroll functions.
Key responsibilities include staffing, conducting new employee orientations, and collaborating with Finance and Payroll to manage payroll transactions.
The role also involves assisting employees and the public with personnel information, maintaining employee records in the HRIS (Skyward), administering employee benefits, and interpreting employee contracts, HR policies, and procedures.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental job duties :
Staffing and Employee Orientation
- Supports staffing allocations and verifies availability before posting positions.
- Coordinates job postings, ensuring compliance with contract terms and recruiting efforts through various platforms.
- Manages recruitment efforts, ensuring a pool of qualified candidates for hiring supervisors.
- Prepares employment letters, processes hiring forms, and ensures budget alignment and accurate pay rates.
- Conducts new hire orientation, covering employment terms, benefits, and key district policies.
- Ensures all required documentation (I-9 forms, background checks, etc.) is completed.
Customer Service and Employee Relations
- Assists employees in understanding employment contracts, HR policies, and procedures.
- Provides HR customer service by addressing employment-related questions.
- Ensures compliance with federal / state regulations, labor contracts, and employer practices regarding employee benefits and HR transactions.
Information and Records Management
- Processes approved leave requests in collaboration with HR leadership.
- Maintains personnel files, ensuring accurate records of insurance, leaves, and other employee data.
- Compiles and maintains databases for HR reports, including worker's compensation and OSHA reporting.
Payroll, Compensation, and Benefits Administration
- Collaborates with Finance and Payroll to ensure accurate and timely payroll transactions.
- Supports payroll audit processes for assigned employee groups.
- Administers employee benefits and coordinates with service providers on benefits changes.
- Processes employee status changes, ensuring accurate time calculations, rate verification, and benefit adjustments.
Other Duties as Assigned
Fulfills additional tasks as required by the Director of Human Resources.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements :
- Associate degree or equivalent post-secondary coursework in Human Resources or a closely related field.
- Three years of progressive responsibility in human resources or a related field.
- Proficiency in using computer databases, spreadsheets, and word processing programs (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Working knowledge of applicable Federal and State employment laws, regulations, policies, and records management guidelines.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to communicate employment processes effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive HR information and interpret district bargaining unit agreements.
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, including active listening, communication, and presenting changes to job practices in a clear and supportive manner.
Preferred Requirements :
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, or a related field, plus three years of advanced HR experience.
- Knowledge of Skyward and Applitrack systems.
- Familiarity with state laws, administrative procedures, and bargaining agreements.
- Experience in a public school or public sector organization.
