POSITION OVERVIEW :

The Accelerator Directorate Cryogenic Division at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is currently seeking a skilled Electrical and Controls Engineer.

This role offers a unique opportunity to play a key part in the operation and advancement of the Cryogenic Plant (2.0K Helium Refrigeration System) linked to the LCLS-II Super-Conducting Linear Accelerator.

In addition, the successful candidate will actively contribute to critical projects like the LCLS-II SRF accelerator, LCLS-II HE project, and Cryomodule Repair and Maintenance Facility (CRMF).

The successful candidate will be working in an integrated team of engineers and operators to ensure the optimal performance and safety of the LCLS-II Cryogenic System.

Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.

Specific Responsibilities (Including but not limited to) :

  • Work with process engineers to define controls requirements (functionalities and behaviors).
  • Select hardware and instrumentation (sensors and actuators) compliant with requirements.
  • Design & development of the instrumentation and electrical cabinets.
  • Design & development of the PLC Code and Human Machine Interface (HMI).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical safety standards and regulations.
  • Develop and implement LOTO Lock-Out Tag-Out plans for safe operation / maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and spare part lists for controls and electrical systems.
  • Lead loop check, calibrations, configuration and troubleshooting of all sensors and actuators.
  • Perform analysis and troubleshooting of Electrical Systems 24V, 120V, 480V, and 4.16 kV .
  • Mentor, train, and work with technicians and engineers.
  • Work outside normal work hours at times to ensure uninterrupted Cryogenic system operation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

BS in Electrical or Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, or related fields and at least 2 years of experience in one of the following areas;

or MS in Electrical or Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, or related fields.

  • Experience in acting as an Instrumentation and Control Engineers.
  • Experience in acting as PLC programmer for Industrial Processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with I&C Systems Integration design using PLC.
  • Ability to perform Electrical and Instrumentation troubleshooting.
  • Expertise with engineering software related to assignment like AutoCAD, ETAP (or similar)
  • Proficiency in power system protection theory, application, standards, design, and analysis.
  • Able to efficiently summarize and explain large quantity of data concisely.
  • Ability to work in collaborative and international work environment.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with Variable frequency Drive (VFD), Medium voltage electrical system, and motors.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC and RSLogix 5000.
  • Process experience is a plus (Gas, Liquid, Flow, Pressure, Temperature)
  • Professional experience in Industrial Gases, Oil & Gas or Process Plant or Power Plant is a plus.
  • Professional Electrical Engineer License in the State of California or EIT Certification

The expected pay range for this position is $116,000 to $170,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory / Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
