Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Inpatient Services Department within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse is to provide technical nursing care to pediatric through adult populations.
Performs treatments and procedures within established guidelines and provides a safe and therapeutic environment.
Among the key duties of this position are the following :
- Provides input to Registered Nurses for incorporation into the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient’s status.
- Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care.
- Informs and instructs patient / significant others on patient’s health / illness state and plan of care.
- Assists patients / significant others in preparation for discharge and health maintenance in the home.
- Documents all aspects of patient care.
- Contacts insurance companies for certification and recertification of patients.
- Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures.
- Maintains supplies and equipment.

Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated strong clinical nursing specialty.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must be PC literate with proficiency in word processing and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least six (6) months (twelve (12) months preferred) of recent experience as an LPN in an acute care setting.
- Phlebotomist and / or medical assistant certification.
- Recent clinical experience in the relevant clinical specialty.

WORK ENVIRONMENT : Moderate noise (examples : business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Functions will be carried out in certain areas, where hospital blood borne and airborne pathogens exposure control plans must be followed.
Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric. Occasionally exposed to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors.
