About CENTRO

The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College - CENTRO, is a university-based research institute whose mission is to produce, facilitate, and disseminate interdisciplinary research about the experiences of Puerto Ricans in the U.

S. and to collect, preserve, and provide access to archival and library resources documenting the history and culture of Puerto Ricans.

To complement these core activities, Centro sponsors a year-round program of educational and cultural activities.

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our organization as the Associate Director of Development and External Relations.

As the Associate Director, you will play a crucial role in shaping and implementing our organization's development strategies while fostering and maintaining key external partnerships with individual, corporate, and private donors.

Reporting directly to the Centro Executive Director, you will work with the Public Policy Director, the Partnership and Internship Manager, and the Grant Specialist in guiding them to achieve our organization's goals effectively.

Core Responsibilities

Development Strategy : Plan and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies that align with the organization's mission and objectives.

This includes identifying potential funding sources, creating compelling grant proposals, and cultivating relationships with donors, philanthropic foundations, and corporate sponsors.

Public Policy Support : Support the Public Policy Director in monitoring and analyzing relevant legislative and regulatory developments, providing strategic recommendations, and advocating for policy changes that advance the organization's initiatives.

Grant Proposals : Write proposals and grants to fund public policy research projects. Coach the Grant writing team on grant applications, deadlines, renewals, updates, and report writing.

Reporting and Analytics : Provide regular reports to the Executive Director on development and external relationship activities, analyzing outcomes and proposing adjustments as necessary.

Create and submit reports to donors, funders, and other private and public office stakeholders.

Donor Cultivation : Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with existing donors, keeping them informed about the organization's progress, impact, and future plans.

Partnerships and Collaborations : Support Partnerships Manager with efforts to establish and nurture strategicpartnerships with external organizations, NGOs, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

Collaborate with these entities to achieve common goals and maximize the impact of joint initiatives.

Fundraising Events : Oversee fundraising events in collaboration with the CENTRO events manager,leveraging networking opportunities and increasing public awareness of the organization's mission.

Compliance : Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in fundraising and external relationship activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.

Preferred qualifications :

Education : Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Business Administration, Nonprofit Management,Public Relations, or a related discipline.

A Master's degree is preferred but not required.

Experience : Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in the management of development, fundraising, public relations, or a related area.

Previous experience in a leadership or management role is required with a demonstrated track record of successful fundraising and partnership development.

Strategic Vision : A visionary leader who can contribute to the formulation and execution of long-term development and external relations strategy aligned with the organization's mission and goals.

Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectivelycommunicate with diverse stakeholders, donors, and potential partners.

Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not required.

Networking and Relationship Building : Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, partners, and external stakeholders to advance the organization's mission.

Analytical Thinking : Strong analytical skills to assess fundraising opportunities, track performance metrics, and make data-driven decisions.

Team Management : Experience leading andmotivatingteams to achieve common objectives, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Adaptability : Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and effectively adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.

Ethical Standards : Commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in fundraising, external relationships, and organizational representation.
